The tennis court used to be the only place you’d find anyone wearing head-to-toe white for a workout. But this season, the clean color palette is no longer being consigned to the country club.

That’s because the uber-influencers of the sweaty set—from buzzy boutique fitness trainers like Amanda Kloots and Heather Andersen to it-status celebs like Bella Hadid—have made it their new black.

“Wearing head-to-toe white not only looks clean and polished, it also gives you a streamlined shape,” says Kloots, who’s been spotted rocking light-hued, monochromatic looks while leading her waitlist-only jump-rope workouts. (Her favorite way to wear it? A pair of  high-waisted leggings with a matching crop top.)

If you’re looking for an iteration of the trend that’s more on the athleisure end of the fitness-fashion spectrum, celeb stylist Jasmine Caccamo—who’s worked with Taylor Swift and Olympic gold medalist Alex Morgan—often dresses her clients in stark-white sports bras and sweatpants. “They’re easy, flattering pieces to wear at the gym or on the street,” she says.

“Wearing head-to-toe white not only looks clean and polished, it also gives you a streamlined shape.”

To avoid any wardrobe malfunctions (i.e. sweat stains), Caccamo recommends sticking with separates made from moisture-wicking and quick-dry fabrics. The stylist also suggests choosing pieces with mesh or sheer panelling for added ventilation. “[They] make a fashion statement, while being breathable during your workouts,” she says.

The trickiest part about pulling off the trend is ensuring your look doesn’t skew from chic to sterile. One way to do this is by playing with tones and fabric combos, according Anderson. The founder of New York Pilates frequently matches her activewear to her waist-length platinum locks—but if you don’t look like Daenerys Targaryen, take her advice: “Not only can you mix shades of white, but pairing different textures together will add dimension to any outfit.” Or go super-sporty and consider shopping for pieces with contrasting elements like racing stripes. “White on white always looks great against a pop of color,” Andersen adds.

Besides looking effortlessly cool, there is one other upside to the white-on-white activewear ensemble—as Kloots, explains, “It really makes your summer tan pop!”

Now that you know how to wear it, here are 5 all-white activewear options you’ll want to live in until Labor Day.
