Allbirds Just Launched an Activewear Line That’s Every Bit as Comfortable as Its Wool Sneakers

When its revolutionary wool sneakers hit shelves in 2016, Allbirds forever changed the look and feel of a running shoe. The brand has since expanded into more eco-friendly footwear and apparel with Tree Breezers ($98) and a puffer coat. Now, Allbirds can add "activewear" to its long list of Earth-friendly fashions. The brand just launched the Natural Run Collection, a new line that's all about bringing sustainability to your next workout.

Featuring athletic essentials, like sports bras, leggings, shorts, and tanks, the line is made primarily from natural fabrics that are designed to elevate performance. Materials include breathable eucalyptus fiber that's breezy and buttery soft, recycled synthetics that provide flexible, four-way stretch, and of course, temperature regulating wool. The only unnatural, non-recycled fabric in the line is spandex, which Allbird's says it plans on replacing with a more sustainable material, according to the site.

Well+Good's beauty and fitness editor Zoe Weiner put the latest pieces from Allbirds new line to the test. The results are largely promising. Weiner praised the pieces for its aesthetically-pleasing design and unrivaled comfort.

"I tried the sports bra and leggings set, and it's the type of lounge-around athleisure I've been searching for forever," she says. "The fabric is buttery soft, and I love that the sports bra is long enough to trick people into thinking I've got an actual shirt on."

Women's Natural Legging — $98.00

These are the leggings Weiner tried, which she says fit like a dream. It’s made from a silky soft blend of eucalyptus fiber, recycled synthetics, and wool, that moves with you through every, “squat, stretch, and stride.” Available in black, grey, burgundy, and navy.

Women's Natural Run Form Tank — $68.00

That sports bra Weiner mentions is technically this tank, which features a built-in bra for maximum support. Its longline silhouette falls at the natural waist while the racerback strap keeps everything in place while you move. Choose from black, grey, burgundy, and navy.

Men's Natural Run Short — $68.00

These airy shorts feature a relaxed fit and lightweight fabric perfect for cardio. With a drawcord waistband, deep pockets, and side vents for extra breathability, they feature intentional details that go a long way on and off the track. Available in black, grey, and navy.

Women's Natural Bike Short — $68.00

We’re thrilled Allbirds jumped on the bike short bandwagon. This pair is buttery soft and compressive but never restrictive or uncomfortable. In addition to the elastic waistband, they also feature a drawcord for securing an even better fit. Plus, there’s an internal pocket for storing phone, wallet, keys, and other personals. Available in black, grey, burgundy, and navy.

Men's Natural Run Tee — $58.00

This isn’t your average T-shirt. It’s made of all those Earth friendly materials, like merino wool and eucalyptus fiber, so say goodbye to a steep carbon footprint. As for the feel, it’s featherlight and moisture-wicking, perfect for cardio, strength training, and more. Choose from black, white, navy, and light blue.

Women's Natural Run Short — $68.00

If you want a lighter alternative to leggings or bike shorts, check out these running shorts. The breathable fabric has a hint of stretch that moves with you and maximizes airflow. Features include a drawcord waistband, effortless fit, and front and back pockets. Available in black, burgundy, and navy.

Women's Natural Run Tank — $48.00

Like the Men’s Tee, this tank is the definition of “ultra-light.” It’s made of mesh, so if you’re heading to a HIIT workout or something sweatier, this is the tank for you. It’s not cropped, not fitted, and not a bad choice for your next workout. Choose from black, white, burgundy, or light blue.

The only downsides to the pieces are their sweat-wicking capabilities, according to Weiner. She got sweaty—very sweaty— and the sports bra and leggings could have done a better job at keeping moisture at bay mid-workout.

"While I wouldn't say they're sweat-proof enough to stand up to high intensity workouts (I wore them during a HIIT class, and it looked like I'd peed my pants when I stepped off the mat), they're great for lower-impact activities like yoga and barre," Weiner says. "And honestly, the pieces are so cute and comfortable, I'm willing to look past the sweat stains."

Take it from our very seasoned beauty and fitness editor: Allbird's Natural Run line is frontrunner of eco-friendly, fashionable athleisure brands. If you're in the market for a new look for yoga class, or have run out of bike shorts to wear to barre, checkout Allbird's new gear.
