This ‘Plumping’ Mask Is Designed To Make Thin Hair Appear Thicker After a Single Shower

When it comes to styling these more delicate textures, it's essential to look for a product that has the right viscosity—meaning that it's powerful enough to give your strands volume, movement, and moisture but light enough that it won't weigh them down. One new formula that fits the bill: Bumble and Bumble's new Thickening Plumping Mask ($43), which is designed to make thin hair look thicker after a single shower.
The first superstar ingredient in the treatment mask is hydrolyzed rice protein, which is beloved for its ability to stimulate collagen production in your scalp. Because our bodies' collagen production process slows over time (which is one of the main culprits behind hair thinning as we age), this formula helps to supplement our natural reserves. The result is extra-strong strands that are better able to retain moisture—which the formula delivers by way of kukui seed oil (to lock in water) and coconut oil (for extra shine)—to leave your hair bouncy, voluminous, and less prone to breakage.
The formula also contains Emblica, a buzzy ingredient that's been shown to reverse signs of hair aging, strengthen strands, and enrich hair growth and pigmentation. This potent ingredient visibly plumps strands from root to end, making your hair appear thicker and fuller overall. Additionally, the product is free of parabens, formaldehyde, and sulfates, making it extra gentle for thin hair.
Because the mask is meant to be used as an in-shower treatment, its powerful ingredients are able to quickly absorb into wet strands, allowing your hair to drink up all the extra hydration. The brand recommends applying the product after you shampoo and leaving it in for two minutes to give it enough time to properly penetrate your strands. Pro tip? When you rinse it out, turn the tap to "cold." This, stylists say, will seal the cuticle (aka the outermost layer of your hair), which will lock in all of those good-for-hair ingredients.
