Fitness is generally a seasonless fashion category—it’s safe to say your love affair with leggings will last well past Labor Day. But there are a few select tops, bottoms, and sneakers rolling out right now that are worth adding to your summer activewear wardrobe.

This season’s buzziest items are tweaked versions of tried-and-true wins—some of which are already entering waitlist territory. For example, Nike just released new pastel shades of its insta-classic Air VaporMax Flyknit—and already, many of the hues have sold out online—while Ultracor’s new iridescent star-print collection is likely to reach unicorn levels of rarity very soon. Elevated mesh is another trend that’s taken hold—whether it’s artfully arranged ventilation holes (a la Athleta) or home decor-inspired macrame (via Carbon38).

And according to inside sources at both major and boutique activewear brands, color-blocked leggings with a slightly retro aesthetic have been the surprising top sellers of the season so far (think the new Blind Side design from P.E. Nation for Bandier, or the cool, tonal-gray update from Reebok’s collab with Gigi Hadid).

“We expect to see color blocking continue [to trend] as a new way to style fitness apparel,” says Erin Hendel, senior product manager at Reebok. “As an alternative to the printed tight, it’s [a] great, bold option for bringing some excitement to a workout wardrobe.” No fireworks necessary.

There are so many cool sneakers this season, they deserved their own round-up—as did the summer’s best (and most flattering) black bathing suits for being active.
