In order to keep my skin plump and hydrated, I slather on hyaluronic acid like it's my job (I mean, it is: I'm a beauty editor). The all-star ingredient is found in everything nowadays, from serums to moisturizers to skin-friendly foundations. The molecule holds 1,000 times its weight in water, which pretty much makes it a cool drink of water for skin. Lately, I've been seeing hyaluronic acid pop up in a wider range of beauty products. The one I'm most excited about? Lip balms.

The other day, I slathered on a brand-new Kosas lip balm, thinking nothing of it—that it'd simply moisturize my lips like any other balm that I use. But this one was different. Rather than just do its job of hydrating, it truly felt like it was injecting moisture into my lips that lasted for a much longer time than usual, compared to other lip balms. And, as you guessed, that's all because it's packed with my queen: hyaluronic acid.

"Hyaluronic acid gives similar benefits to your lips as it does for your skin," says Joshua Zeichner, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. "It is a humectant, which means that it binds to water to pull in hydration to the skin on the lips." When I rub my lips together as they're rocking the all-powerful HA ingredient, they feel moisturized and plump.

I don't want to be the only person walking around with hyaluronic acid on my lips, though. Everyone should experience the moisturizing magic (it'll make the act of kissing even better, too). So keep scrolling for hyaluronic-acid packed lip balms to pick up, stat.

Speaking of the star ingredient—here's why you should apply hyaluronic acid onto wet skin. And to make your pout have more of a color to it, this is the deal on the tinted lip balm trend
