Welcome to My Morning Routine, where Samantha Wennerstrom (editor and founder of Could I Have That?) and other good-life gurus share their personal (frequently surprising, often healthy) morning rituals—to help you make your a.m.’s more awesome. A key part of her morning? Kicking off her skin-care routine with her Aethern drinkable beauty supplement, which mixes collagen, hyaluronic acid, and more skin-boosting ingredients to give her that lit-from-within glow.

We usually wake up between 6:30 and 7 a.m. Our alarm clock is our 3-year-old daughter Elin yelling from her bed (in the sweetest escalating voice), “I’m ready to wake up!”

The first thing I do when I get out of bed each morning is get a cup of hot water and squeeze half a lemon into it. It helps with digestion, cell function, and detoxes your liver. I love coffee, but I only have it occasionally. When I do, it’s black or a latte with almond milk.

My next wellness beverage of the morning is my Aethern drinkable supplement. I've been taking it straight from the vial with a bit of fresh squeezed OJ afterwards. I love knowing that I’m supporting my skin from the inside out, and I’m a huge believer that our skin is best supported by what we’re consuming. I definitely feel like it gives me a healthy glow. As for other supplements, I also take ashwagandha, vitamin D, B12, and an omega.

The rest of my morning beauty routine is pretty simple. Someone gave me a tip once that if you have dry skin you should skip your face cleanser in the morning and just use water. It made a huge difference, so I always splash my face with cold water, which helps to wake me up too!

My favorite part of my mornings is eating breakfast with my daughter. We always have the best conversations! We usually have oatmeal, eggs and sausage, or if I’m in a rush I’ll make a protein smoothie. I always try to eat within an hour of waking up. I get hangry really easily, so starting the day out with a strong protein-filled breakfast is everything.

My biggest tip for how to wake up early feeling refreshed is to draw the line with your nighttime routine. Shutting off all electronics and getting into bed on the earlier side always pays off for better sleep and a better morning. I even notice a difference when I sleep with my phone in the other room—a little woo woo but I swear by it!
