As you schlep from workout to work (or vice versa) then your evening’s festivities, the last thing you want to do is primp your hair again. But a super casual hairstyle trend is emerging from New York Fashion Week that makes that dreaded transition a breeze: the intentionally messy, lived-in (or shall we say sweated-in?) look.

Major cool-girl brands like Rag & Bone, Band of Outsiders, Creatures of the Wind, and Prabal Gurung are sporting center parts with natural waves—a style that’s convenient for making your post-workout hair look effortless (yet totally chic).

At Rag & Bone, hairstylist Orlando Pita for Tresemme created a look he dubbed “The Evening Wave,” which requires minimal products and effort. All it takes to achieve this style is a bit of texture, some natural oil to keep strands glossy (no prob after a little sweat), and a part down the middle for a fresh look.

So next time you have plans after yoga or your fave HIIT class, embrace your slightly dirty locks and channel the hair that’s rocking the runways this season.

Keep reading for a six-step guide to getting those Rag & Bone tresses.

1. If you have time to wash, go for it

Pita used a pre-wash conditioner followed by a shampoo—but if you’re rushing and don’t have the time, don’t worry: the sweat will only enhance the perfectly messy look.

2. Work some mousse through your locks

This is another optional step. If you have a go-to natural mousse, use your fingers to comb a small amount through your hair from root to tip in small sections.

3. Spritz some salt spray

Use a generous amount to add some extra texture to your sightly damp hair. (Here are seven editor-approved sprays for perfect beachy waves.)

4. Rough dry your hair

Then use your hands to cup sections of your hair into an ‘S’ shape for subtle waves.

5. Add a dash of dry shampoo

Spray or sprinkle your favorite (natural) dry shampoo into your locks for a matte, lived-in finish.

6. Finish with a hair spray to lock it all in

Spritz some hair spray over your perfectly messy look so it stays in place, and voila: you’ll have the of-the-moment rockstar/surfer hair vibes in no time.
