Most of us have busy social lives with places to go and people to see. For some of us that means putting on a bra, myself included. I have really large boobs (size 40G boobs), so going braless isn’t an option I’m comfortable with. Thankfully for me and all my big-boobed people who don’t like traditional bras, there’s a solution: wireless bras for big breasts—a happy compromise between the restrictive bras of our past and ditching bras for good.

Experts In This Article

Wireless bras for large breasts have been around for a long time, of course. There are bralettes, sports bras, and bras that look traditional but simply have no wires. Until relatively recently, though, wireless bras just couldn’t support larger busts. They were too flimsy. The good news is that bra technology is catching up with a push for more extensive sizing in all facets of fashion. Now, there are several companies making actually supportive, wireless bras for large breasts.

Best wireless bras for big breasts, at a glance:

I tried several of these brands on, wearing them around the house and out to drinks with friends to see just how easy a wire-free life can be.

What to look for in a wireless bra for big breasts

“If you’re full-busted and you want to wear wireless, go for it!,” says bra expert Jenny Altman. Thanks to new fabrics and technology, wireless bras can support all sizes. But not all bra brands are made equal: Altman recommends looking for brands that understand full-busted women and are created specifically for C-cups and larger.

Here are some other things to keep in mind when shopping for a wireless bra for large breasts:

Fit

Ensure you have a good fitting bra. “There’s nothing worse than a bra that’s too big or too tight,” says Altman.

Band

Regardless if a bra is wired or wireless, bra support comes from the band. Make sure your band has a secure fit. You want it to be firm but not too tight.

Cup

“Large-cup girls need support throughout the cups. Don’t shop for cup sizes that are too small, you want good stretch and good coverage all around the breasts with no spillage,” says Altman.

Back support

Back support is important for large breasts, so pick bras with a wide band that has strength through the back to help with posture. You can typically find added back support in front-closure bras.

Support and stretch

You’ll need both in a busty bra. Altman says, “Stretch gives you comfort, but you still need a workhorse that keeps you lifted and supported in light of the bra being wire-free.”

Are non-wired bras better for a large bust?

Wireless bras aren’t necessarily better for a large bust, but that’s not to say that wired bras are the superior option. According to Jené Luciani, bra expert and author of The Bra Book, the choice between the two is mostly a matter of preference. Kimmay Caldwell, undergarment educator at Hurray! Kimmay and creator of the online course Bra Confidence & Comfort, echoes this sentiment, adding that the choice will also depend on a person’s body needs, including their preference for comfort (which she says is relative), support and, most importantly, shape.

Both wireless and underwire bras can offer a comfortable amount of support, though according to Caldwell, folks looking for more lift and shape may want to wear an underwire bra. “However, not everyone will want a lifted bust and they might want something more casual,” she says, and if this is what you’re after, then a non-wired bra would be ideal for you.

Kindred Bravely is a sister brand to Davy Piper that focuses on nursing and maternity bras. Like Davy Piper, Kindred Bravely has extensive sizing, even offering a whole page of “busty sizes.” The company recommends trying a busty size if you’re a DD/ E or above. I’m not pregnant nor a mom, so I can’t speak to their nursing or pumping bras, but I did try one of Kindred Bravely’s sleep bras, which was very stretchy and comfortable. Their nursing and pumping bras get very good reviews from other buyers, who like the soft but still supportive fabric and how easy it is to unclasp to breastfeed.

TomboyX Lounge Bralette
Best sustainable: TomboyX, Lounge Bralette — $39.00

TomboyX is a great LGBTQ+-owned brand that makes bras and compression tops for all genders and gender expressions. Similar to Pansy, TomboyX’s bras are less likely than others on this list to lift your breasts (especially if they’re heavy), but are extremely comfortable. These bras come in lots of fun prints and colors (some of them even glow-in-the-dark!) to fit any style. I found them great for when we had people staying at the house and I wanted just a bit of coverage.

Davy Piper The Nellie Simply Wireless Bra
Best removable padding: Davy Piper, The Nellie Simply Wireless Bra — $20.00

Originally $46, now $20

I found Davy Piper through a targeted Instagram ad, and I’m so glad I did. Davy Piper promises extensive sizing and amazing support, and delivers on both. Their sizing even includes a “Busty” option in addition to the S/M/L/XL/XXL sizing we’re used to. The Busty option extends any band size (from 30 to 44) into bigger cup sizes (G, H, and I/J). All of the bras I tried were super soft and comfortable, with some including padding in the cup area to avoid visible nipples. One of the bras (the Nellie Simply Wireless in XXL-Busty) even came with a band extender to add more length if needed. In addition to extending the cup coverage, the Busty bras use a more supportive fabric and wider straps to give heavier boobs and the shoulders that hold them up more support.

Available sizes: S-XXL (Regular), S-XXL (Busty)

Colors: 6

Pros:

  • Removable padding
  • Soft and stretchy fabric
  • Seamless

  • Some reviewers say the band rolls up
Negative Underwear Sieve Non-Wire Bra
Best sheer: Negative Underwear, Sieve Non-Wire Bra — $65.00

If you want something sexy and see-through but still supportive, try Negative Underwear. The brand has a plethora of mesh bras, some with wires and some without. Typically, sexy mesh bras like these are too flimsy to hold up bigger breasts, but Negative Underwear has developed a section of their best-selling wireless bras for large bust sizes, which provide added support for DDD to G cups. The busty bras have an extra swath of fabric at the sides and thicker, more supportive straps. I also recommend the Sieve Bra Top ($65).

Material: 74% polyamide and 26% elastane

Available sizes: A-G cup, 30- to 42-inch band

  • Sheer and lightweight

Okko only has one bra, but it’s a great one. With extremely stretchy fabric, soft and padded cups, and adjustable straps, the Okko bra is an amazingly comfortable, full-coverage wireless bra for large breasts. This was one of the first wireless bras I wore out in public. While I was worried it wouldn’t be supportive or that my boobs would start bulging out, neither was true.

  • V-neck to prevent uniboob
  • Reinforced, adjustable back
  • Removable pads
