We’re on a mission to recognize the fitness instructors who don’t just look great on Instagram—but actually inspire us to be better. So together with Reebok, we asked you to nominate trainers for the first-ever America’s Most Inspiring Trainer title. After nearly 5,000 entries, we’ve narrowed down the pool to 12 amazing finalists—and now it’s time for you to choose a winner! Learn more about Shaun Chambers below, and cast your vote by December 23.
Shaun Chambers, West Hartford, CT
Owner of BODYROC
“Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.” Translation: It’s all about your mindset.
His Power Jam
“Mama Said Knock You Out” – LL Cool J
It’s no surprise that Shaun Chambers’ circuit-style classes feel more like a party than a workout—the BODYROC owner launched his career while working as a songwriter alongside Jennifer Hudson, P. Diddy, and 50 Cent. It wasn’t long before artists asked for his fitness tips—and the former amateur boxer and college football player had plenty.
Today, he strives to be a support system for his clients. Some have gone from not being able to do a single push-up to becoming personal trainers themselves.
“I think a lot of people put themselves in a box and say ‘I’m not in shape enough to do that’ or ‘I’m not smart enough to do that,’” Chambers says. “I’m really passionate about creating opportunities for people [to become] better versions of themselves.”
His Biggest Inspiration
So who’s responsible for Chambers’ drive? His mom. “I’m passionate about health and wellness and mental toughness, [because] my mom didn’t have the opportunity to be passionate about anything—she spent all of her time and all of her energy making sure I had everything I needed to be successful in life,” he says.
After having Chambers at the age of 14, his mother finished high school and started working. “I told her as a kid that I would do anything in my power to make sure that she got the time back that she missed,” remembers Chambers. “I took something I was passionate about to put her in a position [where] she could stop working so hard.”
His Inspiring Mission
“My energy, my payment, comes from seeing other people fulfill their destiny,” Chambers says. “I try to tap into my clients however I can, so they can take the light I’ve given to them, and then shine it out into the world. I thrive on seeing other people thrive.”
The winner of America’s Most Inspiring Trainer will score an exclusive one-year contract with Reebok and major coverage on Well+Good. Cast your vote now!
