Vacations are meant to be a time to recharge, but sometimes they can get so busy that you come home needing a vacation from your vacation. (Couple a busy itinerary with too much sun, cocktails, and long dinners out and it can make you want to detox.)
But thanks to the recent surge in popularity of wellness and fitness getaways, now there are plenty of trip options that will actually leave you feeling refreshed and reinvigorated at the end.
Many of the best combine plenty of fun with workouts, yoga classes, and nutrition lectures—from dance parties with live bands to wine tasting and glacier hikes (yes, really). Where to start?
Keep reading to discover the best healthy retreats happening every single week between now and September 1—all of which are perfect for solo travelers and healthy squads alike.
June 16-19: Wanderlust Stratton
It’s pretty common knowledge that Wanderlust is the Coachella of yoga festivals, combining stadium-sized classes led by rockstar teachers with music sets by, well, actual rock stars. The fest is traveling around the U.S. and Canada all summer, but its first (and only) East Coast stop is definitely not to be missed. Headliners include Gabrielle Bernstein, Dylan Werner, and Seane Corn, while MC Yogi and Michael Franti will be supplying the tunes.
June 25-26: Strength + Flow Fest
Gurney’s Montauk, NY
One sure-fire way to kick off a super-healthy summer in the Hamptons: a fitness-focused weekend at Gurney’s. The festivities include team-based workouts with Dana Cavalea (the former strength and conditioning coach for the Yankees), beachfront yoga classes, a Zappos fitness fashion pop-up, a juice bar, and other healthy happenings courtesy of Wellthily.
July 1-4: Yoga Restival
If an Independence Day weekend filled with orange wine and veggie burgers isn’t your jam, perhaps this will be: a festival dedicated to restorative yoga, massage, music, and dance. Taking place deep in the desert outside of Los Angeles, the retreat will be super intimate—only 100 tickets will be sold—and you’ll be staying in “upscale camping” facilities along with popular LA-area teachers, including Ali Owens, Nicole Doherty, Laurel Erilane, and Jessica Annand (the fest’s co-founder).
July 12-16: DuVine’s TDF Mount Ventoux Bike Tour
What could be more exhilarating than biking your way through the South of France? Taking the same route as the Tour de France riders, during the main event itself. On this five-day tour—which coincides with Bastille Day—you’ll not only have the chance to ride on some of the TDF’s most infamous cols, but you’ll also be able to cheer on this year’s competitors as they pass through the region. And, since this is France we’re talking about, there will be plenty of amazing food and wine breaks to help you refuel.
July 14-17: Tracy Anderson’s Vitality Week
Water Mill, NY
Now that the grand dame of dance cardio is getting cozy with mere mortals and not just the celeb set, she’s hosting a four-day intensive in the Hamptons (and another one taking place August 25-28). The itinerary includes daily workouts, lectures, and Q&A sessions, so if you’ve ever wanted to ask her more about her aversion to rest days, now’s your chance.
July 16-24: FP Escapes Superfood Civilization Yoga Retreat
Sacred Valley, Peru (Various locations)
Way before it-ingredients like maca and lucuma started trending stateside, they were dietary staples in Peru—and this week-long trek will give you the chance to sample them straight from the farm. You’ll also be privy to daily yoga classes with teacher Ashleigh Sergeant, workshops on the origins of Andean superfoods and botanical remedies, meals prepared by Peruvian chefs, and a boatload of Free People swag—you did hear they’re sponsoring retreats now, right?
July 26-30: Of Mythic Proportions Summer Retreat
Join LA kundalini yoga superstar Guru Jagat for five days of yoga, meditation, and cleansing fare on a ridiculously gorgeous island off the coast of Spain. (Fun fact: Mallorca is also the stomping ground of Mick Jagger and Richard Branson.) Along with raising your energetic vibes, you’ll also be exploring crystal caves, prehistoric relics, and mystical temples, with plenty of beach time scheduled in for good measure. (If this week is no good for you, Guru Jagat will also be hosting a similar retreat from July 21-25.)
August 4-6: The Ripple Effect
Lake Austin Spa Resort, TX
Name a fitness-related activity and you’ll probably find it at this Vogue-vetted hotel—but with an aquatic twist. This weekend, in particular, will see an added emphasis on water and wellness, with guest instructors teaching classes in Tai Chi, yoga, Pilates, dance, and strength training, all taking place in, on, and around the lake. Also on offer: waterfront spin classes and bootcamps, SUP sessions, and water meditation. H2-om, indeed. (Sorry, had to!)
August 11-14: Workouts & Wine Tasting
Sonoma County, CA
In between kayaking, yoga, biking, and HIIT sessions with The Fhitting Room coach (and Well+Good model) Amanda Butler, there will be wine—so much wine—at this escape organized by Ketanga Fitness Retreats. You’ll be staying in a private villa in California wine country that’s perfectly situated for vineyard tours and tastings, and a private chef will be prepping your healthy meals for the week. Cheers!
August 18-28: Mile High Run Club’s Iceland Retreat
Iceland (Various Locations)
Running outside in the summer typically means dealing with hot, humid weather. Not so if you’re running the Reykjavik Marathon, part of an Icelandic expedition organized by NYC’s premiere treadmill training studio. After you finish the race (which also includes half-marathon and 10K options), you’ll spend a week exploring glaciers, national parks, and, of course, the beloved Blue Lagoon healing baths. Your post-run muscles will seriously thank you.
August 24-28: Soul Camp East
If you agree that life was far better when all you had to worry about was winning color war, you’ll definitely find your tribe at Soul Camp—a summer camp experience for grown-ups. Yes, you’ll be sleeping in a bunk, doing arts and crafts, and prepping for a talent show, but you’ll also be sweating through workout classes with 305 Fitness and IntenSati, learning about integrative wellness from Aviva Romm, and taking part in dance parties led by DJ Tasha Blank. Not on the East Coast? A California camp is coming in October.
If a road trip’s more your speed, check out this Pacific Coast itinerary that will have you hitting up all Cali’s healthiest hotspots. (Here’s your packing list, BTW.) And if you’re looking for somewhere to stay, this hotel chain is Dr. Frank Lipman-approved.
