The new studio, opening Monday, May 2, is debuting in Brentwood Village inside what used to be a Cardio Barre studio. (Ironically, it’s just a mile away from Tracy Anderson’s Brentwood HQ—where De La Rue, like many dance cardio instructors who’ve become brands, once taught before launching her own fitness empire.)
“Brentwood is a community where we have a lot of existing clients,” explains De La Rue. Her bicoastal client base includes plenty of Westside-dwelling celebs, including Jennifer Garner and Taylor Swift. “It’s quieter than our West Hollywood location, but by now the brand is well-enough known in California that we can get away with being a little more hidden.”
While a second LA home base might seem overdue (like if you’ve been trampolining into your neighbor), De La Rue says it’s been brewing for a while now. “This has been a work in progress for about a year-and-a-half, since it’s so difficult to find a space,” she says. And even this one required a bit of a facelift, which included a new sprung dance floor and the addition of a shower and a room for private classes.
The class formats and instructors will be the same as at BBS WeHo, but class times have been adjusted slightly to accommodate moms’ school drop-off times and class schedules of the nearby UCLA students (read: a later start in the morning, and earlier classes at night). And while the studio will be christened this weekend with invite-only kick-off events for VIPs and influencers, it’s just one of many reasons for celebration.
“We’re opening another studio in New York next,” De La Rue tells me, noting that she’s looking at spaces on Manhattan’s east side. (The existing NYC studio is in West, West Chelsea). “I want it to be [open] in September, but my team is telling me that I’m crazy!” After that, she says, a London space is her “next big passion project.” All hail the dancing queen.
