Like couture, fitness fashion brands are always at least one season ahead.
So, for the past few months, we’ve been stopping by showrooms and browsing look books to find out what’s in store this fall.
We think you’ll love the fashion-forward looks we found. Some are available for purchase now, others will hit shelves later this month.
Here are 6 trends you’ll start to notice at boot camp and yoga once the summer sun sets—and the pieces we can’t wait to get our hands on. —Lisa Elaine Held
BABY GOT BACK
We saw a rise in patterned tank tops this past year. Now the trend is moving south to pants. But while stretch of pattern from hip to ankle might feel like overkill, the shorter capri makes for a great transitional object from solid color to pattern, and from summer to fall. Several standouts: the Alo Synergy Capri in Autumn Leaves ($56, pictured at left), one-size-fits-all Tees by Tina Tie Dye All Over Capri ($43, pictured at right) and newcomer Prism Sport ($75) , which is dedicated to patterns that embrace everything from watercolor to snakeskin (available at Yoga Shanti, Sag Harbor).
LEGGINGS GET LOUD
COLOR, SIZZLE, AND SPARKLE
And where colors are not as bright, glittery fabrics add sparkle, like with the super-shimmery Phat Buddha Reade Leggings ($56), above (which will come in more colors, like maroon, for the holiday season). Athleta will also debut a shimmery top, closer to the holidays, that you could seriously wear to da club.
SLEEKER LIGHTWEIGHT SHOES
Lightweight running shoes started out barely there (like the toey barefoot Vibram). But as more brands entered their innovations into the race, the category got wide and bulky in the name of stability. Now, brands have figured out how to keep the stabilizing base and lightweight feel without making you look you have duck feet. The revamped Puma Faas 350 S ($85), above, is a great example, and Nike, New Balance, and Fila all have lots of super-sleek sneaks debuting.
