Swerve Fitness kicks off its first classes this Saturday, in a 3,500-square-foot, two-story studio on 18th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues—right across from City Bakery, so you can work off those pretzel croissants fast.
The team behind the brand is focused on building a sense of camaraderie into every aspect of the space. “It really creates the opportunity for an individual to come in and potentially meet people. Or if you come with a group, you can compete together and then hang out afterwards,” says co-owner Eric Posner.

Throughout class, you’ll generate an energy output number called your “Swerve score” that will be added to the others on your team and displayed on three flat screen TVs at the instructor’s discretion. It’s like your Torqueboard score at Flywheel, but with friends (and maybe enemies).
Owners describe the actual class style as “athletic and results-driven,” with lots of intervals. You can also expect light hand weights on bikes. So far, instructors include SLT’s Trisha Kinsman and former Equinox trainer Douglas Johnson.
