Remember that brooding, yet hard to resist, Jess Mariano (played by Milo Ventimiglia)—AKA Rory Gilmore’s bad boy BF? Well, that sprightly young actor has grown up, and he’s even easier on the eyes these days—not to mention super strong.

Hunky Ventimiglia appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this week (serious mustache in tow), and viewers got to watch the star prove just how much he’s changed. How? By doing push-ups with host DeGeneres on his back (NBD).

The push-up heroism came after DeGeneres pointed out how fit the 39-year-old actor is—”I mean, when I’m hugging you, you’re solid,” she says—and showed a photo of Ventimiglia pulling off a similar push-up stunt on his hit television show This is Us. Then, he offered to show the Ellen audience how it’s done.

Ventimiglia hit the floor, DeGeneres climbed on, and the buff star easily did push-ups (nine, to be exact) as if he was just lifting air. Add this to the list of solid reasons he was on People’s Sexiest Man Alive list this year.

Watch it for yourself:
