When people started doing doga—AKA yoga with dogs—it was basically the cutest thing ever.
But! Have you heard of goat yoga? While doga does occasionally help your canine move through a (modified) flow, goga is not yoga for goats—instead it’s more like animal therapy while doing yoga alongside goats.
“Goat yoga is a yoga class that is held in the back field at my farm,” Lainey Morse, proprietor of Goat Yoga in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, explains to Modern Farmer. “My goats are all very social and friendly so they graze and sit and lie down next to everyone.”
After a yoga instructor friend suggested to Morse that her farm would be a beautiful location for a yoga class, they jumped on the seemingly obvious idea—and simply left the animals as they were, allowing them to wander around and snuggle up with the yogis. “It was a huge hit,” Morse says. “My goats are just very peaceful animals and everyone that comes over leaves stress-free and happy.”
Morse is holding two classes next month (on September 10 and September 24), so if you think your chances of finding a yoga-friendly goat in your neighborhood are slim—maybe try the Central Park Zoo?—you still have time to make travel arrangements to Oregon.
Also, because the #goatyoga is filled with beautiful treasures, below are Instagram’s cutest examples.
