There are tons of retreats where yogis, boot-campers, runners, and triathletes can work on their fitness skills while also getting away to relax, recharge, and socialize.
Now, New York City’s As One is hosting an Obstacle Race Training Camp, a weekend for those who want to up their game before hitting a Tough Mudder or Spartan course (and experience the gorgeousness of the Hudson Valley in October). The camp, sponsored by OCRgear.com, is the first mud race retreat we’ve seen so far.
“We’re seeing growing demand for people wanting to train for obstacle races…because it’s very challenging to ‘practice’ for them,” says As One client manager Kaley Hoffman. The equipment is typically hard to come by, and the race courses are not open year-round for athletes to train on.
So, on this retreat, says Hoffman, “participants will not only get a chance to work out and break a sweat, but this will actually give them an opportunity to practice on some of the obstacles.”
Just don’t expect towel service and fancy accommodations. The weekend is being held at a kids’ summer camp, so you’ll be bunking in the woods and spending evenings resting your achy limbs while sipping beers around a bonfire. —Lisa Elaine Held
