Good strapless bras are hard to come by. Like, really hard to come by. They’re so hard to come by that I’ve become accustomed to letting it all hang out, which is a bold move for a 32DD girl. But while underwire bras aren’t always the most comfy (or trendy) at times, the reality is that we still might need (or simply prefer) some extra support. And if you want your off-the-shoulder wardrobe to work, it’s time to bring the strapless bra back.

What makes a strapless bra good

But what makes a good strapless bra? In a perfect world, we love something that isn’t dancing on our torso after 15 minutes. Comfort and fit is also a high priority as well. That said, it’s important to get the right size cup (or even a tad smaller) to help securely hold your breasts in and prevent the bra from sliding down below. Additionally, you want to make sure that the gore (aka, that tiny part where the cups meet together) is sturdy, and that the bra’s brand is thick and fits firmly, says Utah-based bra fitting expert Courtney Killpack.

How to get a strapless bra to stay up

This is a large part of how you get the bra to stay up. “Your band has to be snug around fitting correctly,” says Killpack. “Because you’re not wearing straps, you’re going to be relying on 100% of your strapless band to support you. You want it to be a comfortable snug.” Also, it pays to seek out bras with lots of hooks and eyes on the back. These help to give more support and stability where straps normally would.

If you’re still having difficulty keeping the bra from sliding down, look for something that has convertible straps or silicone strips in the band. The silicone helps hold the bra in place and provides additional support and comfort throughout the day.

But construction aside, I wonder if it possible to find a strapless bra that isn’t neutral-toned and snooze-worthy? Don’t worry, we investigated this from all different angles. Keep reading to find out the most noteworthy styles to add to your wardrobe.
