The newest food delivery company doesn’t want to help you order junk food from the comfort of your couch. (You have Seamless for that). Instead, it wants to help you access nutritionist-vetted healthy cuisine no matter how crazy your workday is.
Healthy Hand is currently in beta mode and founder Chris Mirabile says the idea came to him while working at his previous start-up, Hotlist. “I would get distracted from my work to order lunch, while my co-founder would just forget to eat,” he says.
So, he decided to simplify the whole affair, eliminating the homework required to find healthy options and the actual ordering process, too.
Here’s how it works: When you sign up to become a member, you choose a “diet” from a list of healthy options like Mediterranean and vegetarian, and answer questions about food preferences. And you choose when and where you want your lunch to find you every day.
Then, Healthy Hand sends you an email each morning with two options from New York restaurants, based on your preferences. You click the one you’re craving, and it shows up at the time you specified. If you’re on vacay or have a lunch meeting, you just ignore the email and they don’t deliver that day. It’s currently available in Manhattan at $28 per month, plus the cost of your meals.
“We only go to the highest rated restaurants,” Mirabile says, and they won’t suggest a fried chicken basket. “We have dieticians who go through and look at each menu item on an individual basis and make sure they’re healthy.” So you, and your assistant who doesn’t have to shout 15 salad ingredients into the phone, will feel good about it. —Lisa Elaine Held
