“A rather sensible choice for the unpredictable spring weather, [PVC] popped up on the runways screen printed with newspaper clippings at Balmain and Calvin Klein and as clear rain gear at Chanel,” says stylist and brand consultant, Rachael Wang. “[It] adds a lot of oomph to a basic outfit by simply adding an interesting texture.”
While life in vinyl is hardly practical in the heat, an accessory or lightweight layer is a preferred method for pulling off the look, especially handbags. “For a time, a clear branded tote was a free gift with purchase at participating Céline boutiques and it has become the hottest accessory on the street and is currently sold out everywhere,” says Wang.
Shopbop’s fashion director Caroline Maguire says less is more to avoid looking like a ’90s throwback. “I would suggest sticking to one item in an outfit whether it’s a handbag, shoe, or belt—let one piece be the focus,” she says.
