Crossfit Solace Has Lots of Barbells, and Also Blow Dryers

CF Solace 3Hard-core CrossFitters are going to groan collectively as they read this, but I can’t not say this right away. CrossFit Solace has flat irons.

Yes, the city’s newest home for snatches and soreness commiserating, which officially opened the last week of October, comes equipped with both a special sprung floor that can absorb dropping barbell vibrations and locker room design and amenities like hair-styling devices worthy of a spa.

It’s a untested combination on the New York City fitness landscape and is sure to set them apart from the get-go. We stopped by the mega-space to bring you this sneak peek inside. (And do our hair.) —Lisa Elaine Held

When you walk in, a check-in desk decorated with succulents sits in front of a spacious retail area on the right, and this Solace sign, made of moss, hangs over a wooden bench seating area on the left, complete with greenery. Of course, foam rollers and med balls need space, too.

This upstairs workout space is where Solace will host its “Freestyle” classes, which are gymnastics-based workouts focused on helping members develop strength, core stability, and skill needed for some of the complex movements CrossFit requires.

Solace is also home to a yoga program, with athletic flow classes offered in a single studio that fits 25 mats comfortably.

The 5,500-square-foot basement is where the CrossFit action is, with a 90-foot turf run and weights, Rogue boxes, and rings galore.

There are also two long rows of Olympic lifting stations, where Solace Barbell Club classes will meet.

And finally, the aforementioned locker rooms, with gorgeous wood paneled walls and floors, and tons of space for blow drying, hair straightening, and chatting about your WOD finish time.
