The vibrant Acne Studios Mohair Checked Scarf ($310) has been living in my head rent-free since it popped up on my TikTok feed (#acnestudiosscarf has over 8M views) and Pinterest page this fall. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so strongly about an accessory before, let alone a scarf—especially since I live in Miami where scarves are only necessary 3-5 days out of the entire year, if that.  But there’s just something about its colors, its toasty wool-mohair blend, and its oversized, blanket-level proportions that has totally bewitched me this year. I simply need to have it. The only thing standing in my way is the $310 price tag.

Since I, a Floridian, cannot justify dropping double my monthly car payment on a scarf, I set out to find a cute, affordable alternative. Fortunately for me and anyone else under the Acne Studio scarf spell, there are some brands (for which I'm totally grateful) that have crafted their own versions of the cheerful winter staple at a much more attainable price. Scroll on for the cuddliest, chicest scarves that don't cost a fortune.

7 scarves just as good as the Acne Studios scarf

Free People, Piper Plaid Recycled Blend Fringe Scarf — $58.00

Whereas the Acne Studios scarf covers a spectrum of warm and cool shades, this Free People scarf zeros in on a matcha-inspired palette—from bright limes and earthy mosses to cool baby blues to yellow-tinged chartreuse. Needless to say, we’re very much on board. It’s made using a recycled polyester blend, and features fringe detailing just like the designer favorite. According to some reviewers, “it feels like you’re wearing a blanket around your neck,” and is even large enough to wrap around as a hood.

Urban Outfitters, UO Plaid Scarf — $35.00

It seems like the internet is quickly catching on to the UO Plaid Scarf, which bears a similar likeness to the coveted Acne Studios scarf (down to the label!)—so I’d recommend adding it to cart before it sells out completely. The plaid checked design features a smattering of warm and cool hues, paving the way for plenty of styling possibilities. What’s more, the plush polyester material and oversized build are your saving grace against the frigid cold.

Uncommon Goods, Seamless Rainbow Scarf — $35.00

Snuggly, seamless, and made to stand out—that’s this scarf. It’s made in Ecuador, hand-loomed by an Indigenous family out of the softest, most swoon-worthy alpaca wool. Feel aside, its colors are a sight to behold and bound to make any gray, dreary day a bit brighter the moment it’s on. We’ll take two.

Lucky Brand, Pastel Plaid Blanket Scarf — $18.00

Originally $60, now $18

If you love the Acne Studios scarf, but have a mild case of color shyness, then this Lucky Brand scarf is the way to go. It boasts the same, multicolored check design with fringe detailing, but in a soft, pastel color palette that’s giving us real sugar plum fairy energy. The muted pinks will transition perfectly going into spring, too. We love the plush, cotton knot and fun tassels, as well as the oversized blanket shape that we’ll be burrowing in through the winter.

Yatemiole, Cashmere Big Colored Checked Scarf — $25.00

Originally $29, now $25

This large scarf from Amazon is nearly identical to the Acne Studios one, at an unbeatable price. It’s made of acrylic, but claims to feel as soft and warm as cashmere—and Amazon shoppers all seem to agree. “The scarf is so soft and warm,” writes one shopper in a 5-star review. “The colors are bright…Just what I wanted for a drab winter day.” Speaking of the colors, reviewers say they’re just as bold as they look online. Which is exactly what we crave during dark, gloomy winters.

Oliver Bonas, Bright Gingham Print Super Soft Blue Midweight Scarf — $51.00

With its fun, fringe detail and candy-colored blue, orange, and yellow checks, this Oliver Bonas scarf has the same mood-boosting appeal as the Acne Studios one. The mid-weight scarf is made using 100 percent polyester for a fuzzy feel that’ll keep you snug all season long. And, unlike the designer version, it’s machine washable, making it as low maintenance as it is stylish.

Mark and Graham, Lightweight Italian Plaid Scarf — $75.00

Albeit a bit more expensive than the other alternatives on this list, Mark & Graham’s flamingo pink scarf is worth every penny. The color alone is enough to keep the winter blues at bay, giving you a burst of summery action when you need it most. Then there’s the fuzzy alpaca wool that’s always toasty and never itchy, which is everything you want in a scarf. Plus, you can get it monogrammed, making it totally yours.
