With the swirl of new CBD products coming onto the market every day, it’s next to impossible to know which products are worth a spin and which are better left alone. So, we asked Varuni Palacios, the Head of Growth and resident beauty expert for Miss Grass, an elevated lifestyle shop and publication for women and cannabis, to share the CBD beauty and skin-care products she can’t live without.
I've been moonlighting as a skin-care and beauty buff ever since I bought my first Lip Smackers. I love to help my friends and colleagues (sometimes, even my boss) bring out the best in their skin by introducing them to new tips, products, and techniques. So naturally, when I started working as Head of Growth at Miss Grass, I immediately became infatuated with the CBD (cannabidiol) beauty products.
While growth is my day job, I help choose all the CBD products we sell in the Miss Grass Shop, often trying them before they're released. I get to meet the formuators and talk to the founders—and still I find it tricky to know which products to choose. The CBD world is confusing! The only serum you'll ever need: BEBOE Therapies High Potency CBD Face Serum, $148
I was already a big fan of BEBOE because they make my favorite CBD vape, so when the brand announced the launch of BEBOE Therapies, its new skin-care line, I had to get my hands on everything. I love a sheet mask; it's the perfect “set it and forget it” skin-care treatment you can apply to freshly-cleansed skin while watching TV (Big Little Lies—shall we discuss?). And clearly the brains at BEBOE Therapies did their homework because the ingredients in this mask are completely clean yet extremely effective, including vitamin E and alpha hydroxy acids to brighten your complexion, even your skin tone, and boost elasticity. The best rescue for parched skin rescue: Cordial Organics Rose Hydrosol, $22
Cordial Organics is a female-founded clean beauty and skin-care label formulated with CBD. I first tested out the rose hydrosol as a toner, which helps to clear away leftover residue post-cleanse, balances the pH in your skin, and fills in spots that require more hydration as a prep for your moisturizer. I’ve never looked back. Not only do I use it as a toner, I also use it to set my makeup in the morning, for a mid-day refresh, and on flights.
The nighttime full-body treatment: Apothecanna Calming Crème, $40
Apothecanna is the OG cannabis skin-care brand and it's stood the test of time for good reason. The products are formulated with natural and nutritious ingredients for the body that also provide a sensory experience—so basically, they smell beyond. But this isn’t just a body cream, it’s truly a treatment. And I’m addicted. Their body cream features lavender, chamomile, frankincense, and of course, CBD. It’s my go-to after a nighttime shower. It dries down pretty well so I don’t end up sticking to the sheets—you know what I mean. Nobody buys an Apothecanna product without becoming a walking ambassador for the whole brand—they’re that good.
The queen of before-bed tinctures: Mineral’s Robyn for Sleep Tincture, $160
Sleep is the MVP of your skin-care regimen. Seriously, there’s nothing better for restoration and regeneration than a full eight hours of zzzs. And yes, skin-care has always been the best part of my nighttime ritual, but something definitely changed when I added the Mineral Robyn for Sleep Tincture to it. In addition to CBD, this tincture is formulated with CBN, which is a cannabinoid cousin to CBD, that research has shown to be effective in helping people drift off even more quickly. A couple of drops under the tongue after your brushing my your teeth at night should do the trick (it does for me!).
The skin condition secret weapon: Dr. Kerklaan Natural Skin Cream, $52
Dr. Kerklaan’s skin creams are therapeutic, each formulated for a specific skin-care concern, including pain, PMS, and sleep. The natural CBD skin cream is a fave around Miss Grass HQ, where every second person seems to suffer from either psoriasis or eczema. It works because it’s concentrated, unscented, and hypoallergenic. For me, anything can trigger a flare-up (stress, diet, lack of sleep, seasonal weather changes), so I keep it on-hand at all times.
The pain stick I can't go without: Wildflower CBD+ Healing Stick, $75
We’ve all tried those healing creams that smell like menthol, so much that your eyes water and you feel like your body's on fire. The Wildflower Healing Stick changed all of that for me. There is menthol and peppermint in this stick, but the brand did something magical with the formulation that doesn’t offend me. This stick is easy to apply, and includes coconut oil so that it goes on soft and smooth then melts into your skin. The CBD makes it a standout, effective treatment post-gym or for anyone suffering with joint pain, arthritis, sore muscles, or back aches. (P.S. My parents really love it, too.)
The at-home spa treatment: Life Elements CBD Bath Bomb, $14
Baths are the ultimate luxury, and one of my favorite ways to spend downtime at home or on vacation. These CBD bath bombs come in three strengths, and contain skin-soothing and softening ingredients like oatmeal, honey, and grapeseed for moisture; arnica and CBD for soothing sore muscles; and eucalyptus and ylang ylang for a gorgeous, healing scent. They are like a one-stop shop spa treatment—and they make a really great gift.
