With a $5 Hack, I’ve Created the Perfect Headphones for Running

Runners all know this scenario: You're in the middle of your morning mileage, jamming out to a carefully curated motivational playlist when suddenly, one sweaty headphone bud slips out of your ear and interrupts Drake mid-melody (rude). You can go ahead and kiss this particular plight goodbye though, pavement-pounders—I'm proud to report that I've found a solve that doesn't include dropping $200 on fancy headphones.

Rather than ordering pair after pair of sweatproof models that claim to be the best, my go-to hack involves a little DIY refurbishment of any in-ear drugstore variety with removable plastic tips on the end. (You can usually snag these for $15 or less if you don't already have an old set lying around.) Next, you'll need to head to Best Buy or Amazon to look for memory foam eartips that are designed specifically for sports. These Comply SmartCore eartips are my personal favorite, and if you buy a three-pack, they'll set you back just $5 a pair.

Pop the pre-existing plastic tips off your pair, and replace them them with the memory foam ones instead. And voilà, you now own a sweat-proof set of earbuds

Once both your headphone set and your fresh tips are accounted for, go ahead and pop the pre-existing plastic tips off your pair, and replace them them with the memory foam ones instead. And voilà, you now own a sweat-proof set of earbuds that will power your workouts without constant slippage. Plus, as an added bonus, your ear canals will get the royal, memory foam-supported treatment. Ahhh.

Cue: "In My Feelings."
