Here’s What It’s Like To Visit an Entirely Touchless Spa

The Carillon Miami Wellness Resort in Miami is the the largest spa and wellness facility on the East Coast, and what makes it especially unique is its entirely touchless spa experience—that is, one that's entirely hands-free. Launched in July 2020, the touchless offerings drew immediate interest from folks who wanted wellness in their life, but weren't keen at the prospect of physical interaction at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. And in the latest episode of What the Wellness, host Ella Dove, Well+Good director of creative development, gave the touchless menu a try.

“All at once, people were interested because [they weren’t] going to get a massage, a facial, or a body treatment, but they wanted wellness in their life,” says Tammy Pahel, vice president of spa and wellness operations at the Carillon Miami Wellness Resort, says of the initial interest in the offerings.

When you book a visit to the Miami spa, you can take your pick of more than 17 different treatments, and also have access to holistic health practices, and sessions with sex therapists, among other options.

And even now, with lightened pandemic restrictions being the norm, COVID-19 variants have left many wanting to limit touch with strangers, even in these later stages of the pandemic, giving reason to continue offering such services. When you book a visit to the Miami spa, you can take your pick of more than 17 different treatments (more on some below), and also have access to holistic health practices, and sessions with sex therapists, among other options. During her visit, Dove tried out Carillon’s hands-free recovery circuit.

During that circuit, she underwent a handful of hands-free treatments (couldn't help myself). The first was the StimaWell 120MTRS, which combines heat therapy with electrostimulation to relieve back pain. “It feels really good on my lower back,” says Dove. “When it gets to the spots where I know I have some things going on, it doesn’t hurt, but it feels a little bit more intense.”

Next up on the touchless spa journey was laying on a PureWave VEMI bed. “VEMI stands for vibroacoustic, electromagnetic, and infrared therapy,” according to a representative for the Carillon. “Basically, this takes care of electromagnetic radiation from all electronics,” which sends the body into the rest and digest phase to promote prime relaxation.

After spending 25 minutes in the VEMI bed, Dove headed to the Prism Light Pod, which the Carillon representative says helps people achieve photobiomodulation, aka the human equivalent of photosynthesis, which, as reminder, describes when a plant takes light and converts it into energy.

“Your body is going to intake the red-light therapy, convert it into energy for the cells, and work on one of these six options on the board,” the rep says. Those options include sports recovery, chronic pain management, arthritis and joint pain, wound and injury healing, skin conditions and anti-aging, and weight loss.

While those three treatments may have just done the trick in helping Dove feel more rejuvenated, they’re not the only ones that the Carillon staff had in store for her. Press play on the video above for an inside look at the entire experience (because you honestly have to see it to believe it).
