Morocco’s serenity-inspiring aqua-hued city will cure your winter blues

Your favorite color is one of those seemingly benign preferences (like where you sit on airplanes) that might say more about you than you think. And though millennials are predisposed to liking certain shades of pink, the color blue seems to be increasingly omnipresent, perhaps thanks to the rise of buzzy ingredients like spirulina and blue majik and the fact that the hue inspires calm and serenity, which is quite a draw for overstressed millennials.

If you crave a vacation that will help you achieve the most relaxed state of mind humanly possible, you may want to visit Chefchaouen, a town in Morocco known for its blue-tinted everything.

Situated in the northern part of the country, Chefchaouen first began its blue tradition in the 15th century, when Jewish settlers began moving there to escape the Spanish Inquisition, according to CNN. It was their practice to paint things blue because, as the color of the sea and the sky, it symbolizes God.

Chefchaouen is now one of Morocco’s most popular (or at least most photographed) tourism destinations.
