When you think about Christina Aguilera, the image that springs to mind (if you're like me) is the blue eyeshadow-laden, bronzed Xtina that danced around in her music videos "Come on Over" and "Dirrty." In other words: She wasn't exactly au naturel. So when she rocks the no-makeup look that's so popular among celebs these days, people notice. Case in point: the pop star's new, bare-faced cover of Paper magazine. So why's she all about the minimalist life (again) all of a sudden?

"I'm a performer, that's who I am by nature," she tells Paper. "But I'm at the place, even musically, where it's a liberating feeling to be able to strip it all back and appreciate who you are and your raw beauty."

Without her typical smokey eye and bold lip, you can see the star's gorgeous freckles. (Who knew she had them?)

Without her typical smokey eye and bold lip, you can see the star's gorgeous freckles (who knew she had them?)—which is a refreshing 180 from the very done-up look her fans are used to. And she's not here for the criticism.

"There's always gonna be those trolls out there or people that have their own definition and ideals of beauty," says Aguilera. "But I think we're progressing to a place of pushback and more people coming out." AKA more people are challenging the norm—and getting stripped (ahem). Praise to that dose of realness. Anyone else suddenly feel like belting out "I am beautiful..."?

Alicia Keys is also into the no-makeup look. If you want to do it yourself, this is exactly how to get the no-makeup look without any makeup at all.
