All good things come to those who wait—and that's especially true with skin care. Treating blemishes, fine lines, dark spots, scars—all of that takes time if you're using over-the-counter products. In fact, it's recommended that you stick to a skin-care routine for at least 28 days before you throw in the towel. That's because adult skin regenerates over a period of approximately four weeks, during which new skin cells regenerate and replace the old ones. Plus, there are other factors like hormones that come into play. But the point is: It's unreasonable to expect all skin-care products to instantly fix your woes.
However, you can rely on some really good treatments to temporarily transform your skin. For example, my skin tends to get red, especially my forehead (which I'll show ya in a second). One cream I use every morning that actually works? Dr. Jart Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment.

Cicapair is a light green cream that counteracts redness thanks to its headlining ingredient, centella asiatica ("cica" for short, and also called "tiger grass," since it was discovered in China that tigers would roll around in the plant to soothe their battle wounds). Tiger grass has been shown, per studies, to be an effective ointment for minor cuts, burns, psoriasis, and can be used to combat redness and inflammation in skin.
You only need a few dabs for this stuff to work its magic (don't treat it like your go-to moisturizer and go overboard—it'll probably be hard for it to absorb into skin since its consistency is quite thick). As soon as you work the cream into your complexion, you'll notice the redness go down immediately. And I'm not being hyperbolic! This is a before-and-after from this morning before I put on makeup:
Is it a complete 180? Not exactly. Does my forehead look a lot less aggravated (there's a reduction in redness and oiliness) without any kind of makeup applied? Yes. Don't expect actual sorcery, but do expect realistic results that last until you wash your face. And as an added bonus, it contains SPF so you can avoid damage from the sun.
I'm definitely not the only one who swears by Cicapair. It has about 2,000 5-star reviews on Sephora, all of which claim the cream really does deliver on its promise. "This really works! It goes on a little thick but does not feel thick once wearing. It totally corrects my redness and makes it so I don't have to wear foundation to work. Lasts well thru a full day of wearing a mask. The SPF is a great plus," one reviewer says.
It's also important to note that Cicapair is non-comedogenic, which means its formula shouldn't clog pores and is safe to use for oily and acne-prone skin (which mine is). One reviewer writes, "I have serious redness due to acne and while this product doesn’t cover my acne, it evens my skin tone so well that it makes my pimples waaay less noticeable. Can sometimes look a little greasy, but I just buff it out with a makeup brush and it almost makes my skin look airbrushed. I have pretty sensitive skin and it’s never made me break out or given me any irritation."
Impressed? We thought so.
