Oh, that fateful moment of watching the microwave, waiting patiently for your morning cup of Bulletproof-style coffee to reheat when suddenly, pop, you hear the contents of your skin-boosting elixir explode all over the inside of the appliance. Hey, it happens to the best of us. But—similar to dusting that infuriating, hard-to-reach spot underneath your bed—scrubbing down the microwave is a tedious task nobody wants to get stuck with. Unless, of course, you know about one Redditor's genius hack.

When you open the microwave door at long last, the residue of lunches past will be soft enough to wipe up with paper towels or a dish rag.

To make your microwave sparkle from top to bottom, the user says to place a bowl of lemon water on the glass tray and shut the door. From there, Lifehacker recommends dialing it up to high power for three minutes and letting the steam gather inside for five minutes longer after the beep. When you open the door at long last, the residue of lunches past will be soft enough to wipe up with paper towels or a dish rag.

For extra-stubborn spots, try dipping the rag in the steamy lemon water and using some elbow grease to make sure every last spot looks good as new.

Go figure: Lemon is just as good at returning your appliances to tip-top shape as it is at removing nail polish from your skin and hydrating your bod from the inside out.

You'll soon be microwaving warming soups for fall lunches. And here are sweet potato and kale options you'll definitely want to add to the meal-prep lineup.
