Crunch Becomes the First Gym to Join Classpass
ClassPass has a new addition to its list of participating fitness studios—except for the first time, this one is an entire gym.
Starting today, in New York City and Hoboken, New Jersey, ClassPlass members can use the service to book workouts at Crunch, including the gym chain's yoga, dance cardio, and new Ride spin classes, as well as chunks of time to use all the weights and treadmills your heart desires.
This could be a game changer for ClassPass, since many of the complaints about the company stem from the fact that users can’t get into many (if any) convenient class times. Now, in theory, if that 7:00 p.m. Swerve class is booked, you can fall back on solo cardio time at Crunch instead.
The gym, however, is hoping to lure boutique-fitness devotees with its own classes.“We firmly believe that we have the best roster of classes available at any gym, and we felt the quality and variety would fit in perfectly with ClassPass’s offerings, providing new and interesting options for the ClassPass user,” says Christina DeGuardi, senior vice president of marketing, branding, and communications at Crunch.
And you won't be able to just pop by to use the leg extension machine whenever you feel like it. Booking will be subject to the same restrictions as the rest of the classes on ClassPass: You’ll only be able to reserve time—or a class—at the gym three times a month, and only specific time slots will be available.
So while peak-hour treadmill time at Crunch’s popular Chelsea location probably won't be up for grabs (just like Barry’s Bootcamp's most coveted sessions aren't available on the site), more sweaty options in the city can't be a bad thing. —Molly Gallagher
