Although your limbs and décolletage (and of course your face) need moisture 365 days a year, the type of moisturizer that you’re using on your body needs a slight tweak in the spring and summer months: sunscreen protection. In light of the season that is upon us, we’re rounding up the daily body lotions spiked with sunscreen to add to your body-care arsenal.

Note that body lotions with SPF are not quite the same as regular sunscreen products that you spritz or slather on. “Body lotion with SPF is a more diluted version of a typical sunscreen,” says Marina Peredo, MD, board-certified dermatologist and founder of Skinfluence in New York City. “It’s a great product to keep skin moisturized, and it provides more protection than a lotion with no SPF.” That said, she points out that a body lotion with SPF shouldn’t be your sole form of sun protection if you’re going to be spending time in direct sunlight. “It should not replace regular SPF,” she says.

For a body lotion that offers sun protection, look for hydrating ingredients on the label so that you get the double benefit of skin moisture and a UVA/UVB filter. Dr. Peredo recommends staples like hyaluronic acid or ceramides since “those are great humectants that give the skin moisture,” she says. “If you have sensitive skin, you want something with soothing properties like green tea extract or other botanicals.” Keep scrolling to shop one for yourself.
