So Long, Jet Lag: Delta Just Partnered With Equinox to Banish the Travel Buzzkill
As the name of the program suggests, it's meant to reboot your body (the sweaty way) after hours spent sitting in a cramped metal box. To get the specific routine—which includes hopscotch squats, planks, and reverse lunges—simply queue up the on-demand online Equinox options, available for free online. Or, from now through August 2, you can present your recent plane ticket or membership to Equinox or Delta SkyMiles to take the IRL 45-minute class at three of the boutique-gym locations in Los Angeles: Westwood, Marina Del Ray, and West Hollywood.
"Each exercise is based on movement patterns we perform on the go (like carrying suitcases and placing your bags in the overhead bin) and ones we need to do as a result of our sedentary habits en route." —Dana McCaw, creative manager of group fitness at Equinox
The flexible 15- to 45-minute digital workout includes a three-minute mobility warm-up, three 10-minute rounds of three exercises—you can choose to do one, two, or all three rounds—plus a six-minute stretch. Each speedy sequence is "based on movement patterns we perform on the go (like carrying suitcases and placing your bags in the overhead bin) and ones we need to do as a result of our sedentary habits en route,” says Dana McCaw, the creative manager of group fitness at Equinox, in a company statement. So, cue those suitcase squats.
Exercising directly after disembarking is one of those tried-and-true travel hacks that flight attendants swear prevents jet lag, but Delta and Equinox also have scientific evidence to back their Sweatlag program: research out of Western State Colorado University noting that people who are fit are less susceptible to jet lag. But, on a more basic #goals level, you'll also check off your sweat sesh as soon as you land in your location of choice, which makes you a jet-setting boss babe.
So, rather than feeling like you just want to take a nap during the first day of your vacation, just bang out the quick, heart-racing workout in your hotel room, before commencing your adventure.
