Naturally Deodorize Small Spaces in Your Home With *Just* Essential Oil, a Jar, and…Rice

It's usually pretty simple to air out smell issues in the sprawling, open areas of your home: Crack a window, turn on your diffuser, or light a (nontoxic) candle. But certain nooks and crannies are harder to reach (and deodorize)—like your closet (unless you have a dreamy walk-in edition that is also sprawling) and the area under your sink. That's where the following easy, DIY solution comes in, and it only requires three materials, which you probably already own.

In a jar, mix one to two cups of rice with 10 to 20 drops of an essential oil of your choice to create your own natural deodorizer. It'll last four to six months, according to Apartment Therapy.

With just a jar, rice, and essential oils, you can create your own natural deodorizer that will last four to six months, according to Apartment Therapy. In the jar (or really any container that works for you), mix one to two cups of rice with 10 to 20 drops of an essential oil of your choice. My preference is a clean scent that's not overpowering, like geranium or lavender, but Apartment Therapy advises using lemongrass if you need to counteract a rank smell (ahem, like a closet full of sneakers).

Since essential oils are so versatile, this hack, though ingenious, shouldn't be so surprising. After all, you can also put an oil-infused cotton ball in your trash to solve your funky garbage smell. Consider this just one more way the oils can help you create a top-notch wellness pad.

You can also use your essential oils conventionally with a diffuser. Just make sure you remember to clean the device.
