Instagram often functions as a way to post photos of your oatmeal art, rainbow lattes, or to keep tabs on your ex (though you may want to nix that practice). But, especially in 2017—as the world continues to devolve into a heinous dumpster fire wherein women have to fight for basic reproductive rights—it often functioned as a platform for women to empower themselves and their communities.

There's little chance you missed #MeToo, but Instagram captured a number of other #bossbabe moments that transpired this year—here's a recap of some of the most inspiring. Hopefully the list will help you feel empowered, strong, and confident going into 2018.

Take a look at the most empowering Instagram moments of 2017 below.

3. Stretch marks have come a long way

Breast Cancer Awareness month. This image is so personal to me. I had started chemo. Was using a cold cap in hope to not lose my hair. End result was clumps in my hands. I was sick, felt like I was losing myself. Gained people and lost people. Got weak and got strong. Felt ugly and yet more beautiful inside than I had ever felt before. I remember this like it was yesterday, like it was a minute ago. Cancer has so many phases. Shock, denial, acceptance, anger, resentment, rebellion, fear, appreciation, beauty. Remission. Even then, the phases keep coming. Cancer is with you forever. Those who have experienced it know that even after you’ve kicked it’s ass, it still impacts you, in good ways and bad. You still go thru the roller coaster of emotions. You still need support and love. And you can still grasp life and live, live live. #cancer #cancerslayer

5. The "period yogi" becomes a straight-up hero

When Steph Gongora posted a video of her practice to Instagram that showed menstrual blood, the internet went into a frenzy. The yogi however stuck to her beliefs, and she remains one of the many women continuing to push for period realness.

2018 will be all about empowering women through coworking clubs and fast-tracking birth control access.
