This Dreamy Scandinavian Sauna Tour Could Restore Your Soul and (Scientifically) Heal Your Heart

There are plenty of different tours you can sign up for while you're traveling (especially now that Airbnb's new feature is making it so easy), but you'll be hard-pressed to find one that'll restore your soul in the way visiting some of Scandinavia's dreamiest saunas likely will.

Since it's tough to choose just one of Finland's saunas (there are reportedly more than 3 million), the Sauna Tour in the city of Kuusamo lets you try out multiple treatments and at different literal hot spots. According to Afar, the guided experience not only allows you to learn about the history of the country's saunas, but it also encourages you to get your relaxation on—spiritual cleansing and all—in nine unique environments.

The guided experience not only allows you to learn about the history of the country's saunas, but it also encourages you to get your relaxation on—spiritual cleansing and all—in nine unique environments.

The saunas fall into three different categories, and you can visit some (or all!) depending on your mood: Slow and Silent features a smoke sauna with black-charred log walls, a sauna featuring massive ice walls, and a wood-fired sauna; Wild and Free has a sauna heated by wood from surrounding forests, a sauna featuring the beats of a shaman's drum and chants, and a sauna that uses lucky white rocks in the stove; Alive and Strong has a sauna on top of some slopes, a story-telling sauna, and a sauna that offers great scenery and privacy.

Basically, the tour allows you to have more sauna treatments than you probably knew existed, all in one day, which can do wonders for your mental and physical well-being. Past research has shown regular sauna users have lower rates of dementia and hypertension, and a new study found spending time in one, sweating it out can also directly reduce your blood pressure and improve heart health.

So, yep, it might be time to buy a plane ticket—your health practically demands it.
