There’s so much to pack in during the summer (from skinny dipping to making a batch of nice cream) that inevitably, something’s got to give.

Luckily, you can cancel that spa reservation and spend the time you saved by the ocean—all while remedying any pesky skin issues.

“The beach is the greatest place to get a spa-like treatment out of the spa,” insists The Class founder Taryn Toomey. “It’s super easy!”

Her secret? Using her surroundings to create an exfoliating, dry brush-esque experience. “I walk to the edge of the water, scoop sand into my palms, and scrub my body from the ends of my extremities up toward my heart in a circular motion,” Toomey says.

When you’re done, she promises you’ll have boosted your circulation and buffed away all the dry, dead skin—while still having time to finish that book you’ve been meaning to read all summer.
