The Spring 2014 Chanel couture show in Paris on Monday featured running shoes with all 63 looks, including classic Chanel tweed suits, evening gowns, and even a wedding dress (worn by of-the-moment British model Cara Delevigne).
Of course, these weren’t your average gym shoes or designer wedges. All of the Chanel sneakers used couture materials like silk, tweed, and eyelet lace to match their looks. In other words, they don’t breathe, wick, or seem likely to withstand your Barry’s Bootcamp workout.
But with so many women already blending their fitness looks with high fashion, and more designers catering to them (Isabel Marant, 3.1 Philip Lim, and more), the fashion house that created the elegant ballet flat is affirming that that sportier shoes can also be chic.
