When Marla Beck co-founded Bluemercury back in 1999, the luxe beauty company filled a major gap in the industry, giving women a place to shop for products in a more intimate setting rather than shopping for their makeup at the drugstore or department stores. Since then, the number of clean beauty options available at the brand’s soon-to-be 170 stores nationwide has only risen, making it easier to grab products from cult-favorite labels like RMS, Juice Beauty, and Indie Lee in person as opposed to anxiously checking your tracking number until they arrive at your doorstep. And now, that larger focus on clean beauty and wellness has resulted in a new endeavor for the Bluemercury: a brand-new curated collection of beauty supplements that lets clients treat themselves from the inside out.
“It’s the very beginning of this category exploding in our market for beauty, and the fact that we can offer this in our store and more people are interested is a really unique opportunity,” Beck tells me. “Now you don’t just have to focus on your diet—you can use a supplement to supercharge your skin, too.”
“Our initiative is the quality of the formulations, the packaging, and the purity; all of these brands are incredibly pure.” —Marla Beck, co-founder of Bluemercury
You can head into most stores these days to get your supplement fix, but staring at aisle upon aisle of different formulas can be daunting—which is why Beck sought to curate a condensed selection of the best of the best for beauty by offering the optimum product for each beauty need. (Think, the best supplement for glow, or anti-aging, or acne, etc.) “Our initiative is the quality of the formulations, the packaging, and the purity; all of these brands are incredibly pure. It enabled us to launch a set of products we really believe in that are at a standard for our environment.”
Some of the products in Bluemercury’s supplement program are from skin-care brands that have already graced the company’s shelves for ages and have recently expanded into the space—like RMS, with its gut-friendly line. Then there are also options from brands Beck has been eying for a while, like The Beauty Chef and HUM Nutrition. But since people have different preference for how they take supplements, Beck made sure to accommodate: She personally prefers gummies and powders, and the program also includes carries capsules, tablets, and liquids—many of which are vegan and gluten-free. Right now, there are 16 options from 5 brands currently being piloted at 29 select stores, as well as online, but the expectation is that they’ll eventually be available at all stores.
And Beck sees this expansion as just the beginning for Bluemercury’s wellness initiative. “I think we’re going to see more self-care in beauty. For example, if I have arthritis, what can I do in beauty topically and from a supplement perspective?” So get ready, beauty babes: Bluemercury is officially in campaigning to become your one-stop wellness shop.
