Sure, wellness influencers may Instagram their matcha, smoothies, and zucchini noodles, but don’t be fooled—even healthy MVPs love foods like pizza, ice-cream, and candy. (A life without them would be just sad, IMHO.) One dessert Los Angeles-based certified Reiki master, yoga instructor, and meditation teacher Kelsey Patel loves: peanut butter cups.

“Since I was a little girl, I’ve loved Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups,” she shares in the Well+Good Cookbook. Now, as an adult, Patel says her husband sneaks some into her suitcase as a sweet surprise for her to find later. (Um, adorable.) While sometimes nothing compares to the childhood stand-by you know and love, Patel started to wonder if there was a way to give her favorite candy a grown-up twist.

With the help of her personal chef, she perfected a peanut butter cup recipe that’s rich in the chocolate-y-peanut butter taste, but much lower in sugar. In fact, the only sweeteners in her recipe are honey and a touch of maple syrup. The end result is an even more decadent and satisfying taste than the OG peanut butter cups.

Because the peanut butter is full of protein, this snack doubles as a post-workout treat too; savoring one (or three) isn’t just regulated to dessert. Patel’s recipe only contains six ingredients, and chances are you already have them in your pantry. Below, excerpted from the Well+Good Cookbook is the full run-down of how to make them. Kelsey Patel’s healthy peanut butter cups recipe

Makes 12

Ingredients
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 Tbsp pure maple syrup
1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 Tbsp honey
Coarse sea salt

1. Line a muffin tin with paper liners.

2. In a small bowl, stir together the peanut butter and maple syrup. Place one heaping tablespoon of the mixture in each prepared muffin cup. Freeze for at least 30 minutes or overnight, until hardened.

3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the coconut oil, cocoa powder, and honey until smooth and glossy.

4. Pour one tablespoon of the chocolate glaze on top of each hardened peanut butter cup and sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt. Freeze for at least 20 minutes, or until the glaze hardens, before serving.

5. Store in an air-tight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.
