‘I’m an Intuitive Healer—Here Are 4 Ways to Tap Into Your Intuition’
Susan King, an intuitive counselor and holistic practitioner based in London, was born with a gift of sensing things about people and places she couldn’t possibly know beforehand, or as she likes to put it, “knowing without knowing.” Her intuition—which manifests in vivid mental images, smells, and overpowering emotions—allows her to help her clients unlock their own inner wisdom to make decisions and better navigate life’s inevitable twists and turns.
“People often come to me in the midst of chaos and confusion looking for clarity and peace,” King says. “I help people with my own intuition, which has been fine-tuned for over 30 years. It allows me to see the details of a person’s life, and in doing so I’m able to help them have a clearer picture and a new perspective on whatever is troubling or confusing to them.”
She also helps them channel their own intuitive senses and gut-feelings. Since most people aren't able to "see" images or activate their minds as well as King can, she helps them unlock their own intuition in other ways. For some, this manifests as a true gut-feeling that sits deep down within their bellies. Others feel a quick emotion that flashes over them, almost like a wave.
"Most of my clients know it's instinctive," King says. "Some would say it's a feeling in the pit of the stomach, others would say it's like a dream—their subconscious is making them aware."
However it manifests, King believes intuition is like a muscle that has to be worked and conditioned over and over again. It doesn't happen overnight, but it can happen. By clearing our minds, focusing our intentions, and really listening to our bodies, we can become more intuitive over time—all it takes is practice.

1. Be aware, (very aware)
King says you can’t channel a sense of knowing without being generally aware. “Basic awareness is the foundation of intuition,” she says. “You cannot see the terrain while on a train traveling at 100mph, nor can you tap into your gut feelings unless you're grounded."
Working on your perception isn’t that hard to start. King suggests going for a walk in nature and writing down everything—textures, colors, smells, sounds—that’s going on around you. If you're in a city, take a stroll around your neighborhood and make a conscious effort to pay attention to details you normally overlook. Or, sit at your local coffee shop and people watch—practicing awareness will lay the groundwork for better intuition.
2. Practice your breathwork
As with most wellness practices, understanding the connection between your mind and your body is key to intuition. “They both live in the same house,” says King. “Being able to focus your mind will help you listen to your body better. If your mind is all over the place, you won’t be able to feel as well.”
One way to focus our brains and channel a stronger holistic connection is through breathwork. King has her clients perform alternate nostril breathing to foster balance. Or, try a yoga-centric exercise, like Breath of Fire or Lion’s Breath, to quiet the brain and let your energy flow.
3. Turn on the TV… in your mind
Visualization is huge in manifestation and the Law of Attraction, but it can also be used to channel more intuitive vibes. Want to try? “Visualize a TV screen in your mind’s eye,” says King. “Relax and focus, then switch on the TV. What do you see in front of you? What can you see on the screen?”
King recommends really focusing on what images come to mind, as well as the feelings and emotions associated with them. “That very first feeling—the one you can’t forget—that’s your intuition. Not the one you ‘play ball’ with mentally, but that very first one.”
4. Believe in your feelings
Confidence is key for a lot of things, and that includes intuition. Trusting your gut takes real, true belief, so have confidence in whatever it is you're feeling (especially those initial emotions) and don't question them. "You have to be confident, but to get confident, you have to practice," says King. She suggests buying a small journal and jotting down those first feelings, smells, and mental images whenever they come to mind. Over time, go back and look at what you've written down. "Looking back on your intuition will build confidence," she says.
Again, practice makes perfect. Intuition doesn't happen overnight. So trust your gut, and keep at it.
