Want Dancer Abs? Try This 6-Minute Workout From Dancebody’s Katia Pryce

What to do when your sanity needs a sweat sesh, but making it to the studio is just not going to happen? Sweat Series is here to help! We partnered with Athleta and asked the industry’s hottest instructors and fit-stagrammers to give us their quickest—and hardest—do-anywhere workouts. So, get pumped! (On your own schedule.)

Katia Pryce is here to tell you: You can get the abs of your dreams. But you're going to have to dance your way to them.

"This workout isolates the abs because that's what every dancer out there does," says the high-energy yet super-approachable trainer and owner of New York City's DanceBody. To bring Pryce's six-minute full-body burn to Well+Good readers, we partnered with our fab fitness friends at Athleta to capture the dancing queen in the video above.

"Every other fitness professional does exercises that target the abs, but they never entirely isolate them like a dancer does—which is why a dancer's abs are leaner and longer than most others," she says.

With dancing, you wouldn't think you were sculpting your abs—but since you're engaging a lot of different muscles at once through a range of movement, you are.

Pryce's DanceBody workout precisely targets those underutilized, forgotten muscles that dancers can access effortlessly. While the workout itself is broken into two parts—the first half is low-impact and the second half high-impact, to ramp up your heart rate for maximum burn—the entire sequence is designed to give you the strong and active core that only dancing can create.

And Pryce says: Dance queen cred is not required. DanceBody's motto? "You don't have to be a dancer to look like one."

"Dance cardio intimidates so many people because they think they need to walk in looking like Beyonce," Pryce says. "But dancing is an acquired skill just like anything else—you need to learn the basics in order to get better—you don't always just inherently know how to dance."

So, as Pryce would say, leave your ego at the door and let loose—your inner Queen Bey is waiting to be unleashed!
