If you’re not about to give up the whole athleisure lifestyle that reigned supreme throughout the early part of the pandemic, you’re far from alone. When given the option to hang out in comfy, stretchy workout clothes, most of us are more than inclined to do so—especially over stiff jeans that dig in and leave marks on our waistlines. The good news is, we can still count on jeggings—those stretchy, legging-like pants that look like denim and can be dressed up or down, but actually feel buttery soft and smooth without restricting our insides.

While you probably remember the less-sneaky pocket-printed jeggings from the early 2000s, we've come a looong way since then. Today, jeggings are *actually* stylish, made to trick any onlooker as tight, fitted jeans that's much more comfortable than their denim counterparts.

“Jeggings can really accentuate and highlight your figure while still allowing you ample room to move around and stretch,” says Ali Levine, celebrity stylist and founder of the podcast Everything With Ali Levine. “They also don’t exhaust you like a regular pair of jeans that you have to struggle to put on and take off.” According to Levine, anyone can stand to benefit from owning a pair of jeggings: “Really anyone who wants to hype up their figure without feeling restricted would love a pair of quality jeggings.”

That said, finding the right pair of jeggings is not always easy, so we’re sharing some of the best ones on the market today that will make you rethink your actual denim for good.

At a glance:

The 13 best jeggings that look like real jeans

Best high-rise jeggings

Abercrombie & Fitch, High Rise Jean Leggings — $55.00

Sizes available: 23W-37W in extra short, short, regular, and long.

Material: Cotton, polyester, and elastane.

Colors: Light wash, white, medium dark wash, black wash, ripped light, and medium light wash.

These jeggings look nothing like jeggings, which is what makes them so magical—but prepare to be even more impressed when you slide them on. They’re super stretchy and curve around your figure in such a flattering manner, you’ll never want to take them off. There are faux front pockets but they’re tastefully done, not like the screen-printed ones you wore in 2006. Just note, they wash well in the machine but need to be hung dry instead of in the drying machine.

Best splurge

Spanx, Jean-ish® Ankle Leggings — $98.00

Sizes available: XS-3X in regular, petite, and tall.

Material: Cotton, polyester, elastane, and nylon.

Colors: Twilight rinse, white, black, and earthy taupe.

Spanx is well known for its leggings that come in all sorts of textures, so it’s no surprise that they make a top-notch jegging. These jeggings feature Spanx’s signature hidden core-shaping technology that sculpts and support while they’re on, perfect for tucking in a bodysuit or other form-fitting tops. They fall right at the ankle, so they’re comfortable and stylish when worn with both boots or heels. Another plus is that you can toss this pair in the washer and dryer, which makes cleaning and upkeep simple. And while the price tag is a bit steep, trust us—they’re worth every penny.

Best Maternity Jeggings

H&M, Mama Jeggings — $33.00

Sizes available: XS-XXL

Material: Cotton, polyester, and spandex

Colors: Denim blue

The entirety of the H&M maternity is a safe haven for moms-to-be. Not only are its offerings super stylish and comfortable, but also affordable, which is a huge plus when you know you’ll only be wearing these garments for a handful of months at most. These jeggings have a soft-jersey feel and a wide waist panel that fits over your growing tummy. Unfortunately, they only come in one wash (this light denim blue) however, the brand does make maternity jeans that rival the comfort of these jeggings in terms of stretch and movement.

Best jeggings without buttons

Old Navy, Adjustable Waist Wow Super Skinny Jeggings — $35.00

Sizes available: 0-30 in regular, tall, and petite.

Material: Cotton, polyester, recycled cotton, and spandex.

You can only buy this pair of pull-on jeggings online, but if you’re someone who hates buttons on your pants, this one is worth the purchase—especially at such an affordable price. It has an adjustable elastic waistband that you can opt to wear either mid- or high-rise along with decorative front pockets that don’t take up any room. The fly is also decorative, which adds to the jean look without adding to your discomfort. Another plus: These jeans are made with 7 percent recycled cotton.

Best jeggings for curves

Banana Republic, Curvy Legging Jean — $42.00

Sizes available: 00/24-20/35 in regular and tall.

If you have curves, you’ll want to at least try on this pair of jeggings, which are designed to comfortably accommodate your hips and booty. They look like regular jeans, but have a four-way stretch fabric that lets you move around freely and feel comfortable enough to walk or even run in them. The button closure has a zip fly that stays up and belt loops in case you feel like rocking your favorite belt.

The brand also has a few different styles for curves ranging in rises and crops, so you can add a few to your cart for different options. Just note, some reviews say they run a little big due to the stretch, so you may actually want to size down (or throw them in the dryer for a quick fix.)

Best flared jeggings

Free People, Penny Pull-On Flare Jeans — $78.00

Sizes available: 24-32 in short and regular.

Material: Cotton, polyester, and elastane.

Colors: 11 different washes.

Flared jeans never looked so fierce as they do in this pair of jeggings from Free People’s FP Movement Collection. They’re so flattering and form fitting without being restraining in any capacity. They also come in 11 different colors, so if you really like them, you can purchase a few and style them in all sorts of unique ways. And, if you’re really feeling spicy, you can get a printed pair covered in cool patterns like flowers or zebra stripes. Just note, the printed pants only come in regular lengths.

Most affordable

No Nonsense Women's Stretch Denim Legging — $17.00

Sizes available: S-XXL

Softest feel

Hue, High Waist Denim Leggings — $54.00

You might be most familiar with Hue’s tights, and, if you are, you know they’re high quality. Its jeggings are equally soft, stylish, and durable. They look just like a regular pair of jeans but feature a delicate waistband complete with belt loops, faux button details and functional back pockets you can actually use. (No screen printing here!)

Plus, they range all the way from XS-3XL, making them the most inclusive option on this list. Be warned: You might want to leave them on for good.

Best for petite sizes

Amazon Essentials, Women's Stretch Pull-On Jegging — $30.00

Sizes available: 0-30, in plus sizes and long and short lengths.

Material: Cotton, polyester, and elastane

Colors: 22 different washes.

These pull-on jeans are full-length and created with maximum stretch and without a button or zipper. They come in 22 different shades to pretty much cover all of your styling needs and have five pockets—three of which are functional. Reviewers say that they hold up for several washes and conveniently come in a wide range of sizes, including short lengths for petite folks. And they are slightly cropped, hitting just at the ankle with a slightly distressed hem, so you won’t have to worry about rolling them up or hemming them yourself.

Best capri-length jegging

Denim, Lydia High Rise Capri Length Jeggings — $27.00

Sizes available: 4-20

Material: Modal, polyester, viscose, and elastane.

Colors: Black

Although these only come in black, they’re worth having on this list because they’re capri-length, which can be hard to find in the jegging department. These offer maximum stretch with a lightweight material made from a blend of modal, polyester, viscose, and elastane. You can toss these right in the washer and dryer and expect them to hold up for a while, never shrinking or falling apart in the heat. Since they are a capri length, they’re perfect for warmer temps when you want to show a little leg. Otherwise, opt for a full-length pair when the weather dips.

Best Distressed Jeggings

Gap Factory, Mid Rise Universal Legging Jeans With Washwell™ — $35.00

Sizes available: 25-35 in short, regular, long, and extra long.

Material: Cotton, recycled polyester, and elastane.

Colors: Medium distresses.

If you appreciate the distressed look in a pair of jeans, but hate how restricting it can feel on your legs and midsection, try this pair of jeggings from Gap Factory. They’re made from a super-soft knit fabric, have an ultra-flattering fit and can be easily pulled on and buttoned up. Plus, they come in a wide range of lengths from short to extra-long, so you can easily find your perfect fit.

Best medium-rise jeggings

Mavi Alexa Mid Supersoft Skinny Jean — $69.00

Sizes available: 25-34

Material: Cotton, polyester, and elastane.

Colors: Medium wash.

Mavi is known for its ultra-flattering and ultra-comfortable jeans, so it only makes sense that it would have a pair of jeggings that tend to sell out over and over again. This one is a mid-weight denim that sits perfectly below your belly button, but not too low to be considered low-rise. They have a smooth texture, a ton of pull, and tend to hold their shape well so you don’t have to worry about them getting too stretched out. Truly the Goldilocks of jeggings.
