Jonathan Van Ness Wants You To Take Better Care of Your Skin—and These 5 Easy Swaps Will Get You Started

There are some people who pride themselves on their extensive knowledge of skin-care products and those who are fine using whatever they have on hand to care for their skin. We aren't here to tell you what's right or wrong when it comes to your complexion, but it's safe to say that a skin-care routine goes beyond aesthetics. Taking care of your skin is an opportunity to show yourself some love and feel good from the inside out. Jonathan Van Ness, Biossance's global self-care ambassador, is a huge proponent of taking time to care for yourself, and that means caring for your skin. One way you can do that: by taking an extra ten minutes to show your skin some TLC.

"Ultimately, I think with skin care and self care, just like anything, we do need to do it because we believe it," says Van Ness. When it comes to creating a skin-care routine, start with how you feel, not how you look, he says.  As for specifics, Van Ness recommends starting off by cleansing your face, then applying your eye cream, followed by your face moisturizer, a face oil (if you're using one), and completing your routine with sunscreen. Though you probably don't want to overhaul your entire routine, small swaps here and there can make a big difference. For those unsure where to begin and in need of product recommendations, he shared the five easiest places to make a change, with recommendations from the Biossance line.

If you need a new cleanser: Biossance Squalane + Elderberry Jelly Cleanser, $28

This cleanser is a cult-favorite and often sold out, but if you can get your hands on it, Van Ness says it's a must-have. "That cleanser is my all-time favorite cleanser ever." One reason he loves it is because it removes his makeup and SPF in addition to cleansing his face.

If you need a new moisturizer: Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Creme, $58

"It's just so good. It has really nice fatty acids, really nice lipids that buffer the skin and help to deliver hydration to your skin, but also seal it in," he says.

If you need a new antioxidant: Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil, $72

"The Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil is so nice and just so soothing and there's no fake fragrance," says Van Ness. Although it's an oil, he likes to use this product year-round.

If you need a new eye cream: Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream, $54

If you're ready to go all-in with your skin-care routine, Van Ness recommends adding the Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream to your product lineup. This eye cream was made with all skin types in mind and is supposed to help lift and firm the eye area and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

If you need a new SPF: Biossance Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, $30

If you don't take anything else away from Van Ness, heed his advice and wear SPF daily, no matter if the sun is shining or not or if you're indoors all day. This mineral sunscreen is one of his favorites, goes on sheer, and will protect your skin from sun damage.
