As a runner, weightlifter, and jump rope enthusiast, I'm no stranger to the occasional back pulls, pains, and aches. I usually turn to my massage gun, lying leg cross stretch, or an ice pack for some temporary relief. While there are tons of pillows on the market specifically designed for back pain, I've actually found the most luck with a knee pillow when I really am just unable to fall asleep (and stay asleep). Lately, I've been using Luna's Orthopedic Knee Pillow ($25), and my night's snooze has never been better.

Why I love it? The pillow contours to my knee's unique shape and aligns my spine and pelvis thanks to the bilaterial u-dips and ergonomic design. Made of a dense memory foam, the pillow cushions my two knees and prevents them from rubbing throughout the night, preventing muscle pulls and strains. As a side sleeper who shifts positions throughout the night, I find that the pillow easily shifts with me and doesn't lose its position. After three weeks of use, I've noticed fewer occasions of back pain, even after performing squats and hip thrusts just hours before. Even more, the pillow is encased in a white cover that's easily removable and washable (be gone, you pesky stains). As a hot sleeper, the pillow isn't suffocating and the breathable fibers keeps my knees cool as I catch some shut-eye.

Knee pillows aren't just good for back aches: They can relieve sciatic nerve pain, according to Rahul Shah, MD, FAAOS, a board certified orthopedic surgeon based in New Jersey. "In the case of knee pillows, specifically, these can work to improve the alignment of the legs with respect to the pelvis," Dr. Shah says. "In this manner, sore or fatigued areas in the back of the legs (i.e. the hamstrings and sciatic nerve) or the muscles on the sides of the legs are further supported."

I'm not the only one singing praises for this knee pillow. Nearly 7,000 Amazon shoppers have given it a 5-star rating. One customer said: "Since I've gotten this charming little bone shaped pillow, my sciatic nerve malfunction has ceased to aggravate me into sleeplessness nights! As a sufferer of spinal discs that have slipped like dominoes, I can honestly say that this pillow has made a huge difference in my quality of life."

"After dealing with painful 'Sacroiliac (SI) Joint' issues for some time, I noticed this orthopedic knee pillow, here on Amazon, and decided to give it a try," shared another Amazon reviewer. "This simple pillow is AMAZING! It honestly works!
The Luna Orthopedic Knee Pillow is sized perfectly, and keeps my legs aligned properly while I sleep, preventing their weight from pulling on my hips and SI Joint. It's also shaped so well that I don't lose it when I change positions through the night. This pillow is well worth it's reasonable price!"

All in all, Luna's Orthopedic Knee Pillow is an affordable and cost-effective way to kick back and sciatic nerve pain to the curb.
