Mercury Is Going Retrograde This Week and May Bring Even More Wild News

Sunday kicks off with the sun in Libra squaring Jupiter, making things feel a bit larger than life. We'll handle this transit throughout the week, especially as the sun moves forward in Libra, forming a cardinal T-square with retrograde Mars and Pluto. We can expect wild news to reveal itself and that very little will go as planned, with Mercury going retrograde, for the final time of 2020, in Scorpio. That said, it's entirely possible to navigate this turbulence gracefully. Fighting back may be ill-advised, but staying grounded and faithfully rooted in knowing that this too shall pass can help.

Fortunately though, Monday brings several positive aspects: Venus sextiles Mercury while Jupiter sextiles Neptune—a combination that allows for nourishing healing to occur. Given that it's also Indigenous Peoples' Day, consider honoring the many Indigenous peoples who lived in the Americas before the Europeans' arrival.

Mercury retrograde in Scorpio is an investigator: He wants the truth, and his opposition to Uranus can feel eruptive, potentially bringing more wild news.

That brings us to Tuesday the 13th, when Mercury goes retrograde at 11 degrees of Scorpio in opposition to Uranus in Taurus. Mercury retrograde in Scorpio in 2020 is an investigator: He wants the truth, and his opposition to Uranus can feel eruptive, potentially bringing more wild news. But remember, what's coming to the surface must rise. Stay astute but centered, and lean into the growth opportunity illuminating itself now.

As Mercury stations retrograde for the last time in 2020 in Scorpio, the sun in Libra opposes Mars in Aries. This double-edged sword has the potential to make the day feel untenable. But remember that simple self-care practices like pausing, breathing, and taking breaks can help, because Mercury's station slows things down and adds confusion to the atmosphere.

Also keep in mind that while Uranus's opposition to Mercury retrograde in Scorpio remains a wild card, the sun's opposition to Mars can potentially ignite anger with the sun, simultaneously squaring Saturn and Pluto, who also square retrograde Mars. This challenging configuration, known as a cardinal T-square, illuminates a power struggle and is aggressive as hell. Its unabashed presence dominates the week.

Consider it all the more reason to double-down on effective self-care strategies. Create space in your calendar to go for a walk. Keep your headphones handy, with your favorite songs on deck. If it's a part of your wellness practice to pray, chant, or meditate, please do so. If you work with crystals, though, stay mindful of which ones you're using now. Crystals can magnify energy, and since this week is loaded with harsh crescendos, carrying crystals that easily absorb and amplify energy may not be wise.

So, as the moon wanes dark, use this time and space to let go and surrender. With the sun squaring Pluto, information lurking in the shadows can be both informative and paradigm-shifting—so long as we are ready to work with it productively, that is.

The edgy new moon rises on Friday the 16th at 24 degrees of Libra at 3:30 p.m. With Mercury retrograde in Scorpio and the moon joining the sun in its cardinal T-square with Mars, Saturn, and Pluto, this new moon is more so about clearing what's coming to the surface than generating fresh ideas. So, at the time of the new moon or after it, journal what's coming up for you. Notice what's on your heart, mind, and soul. Commit to an intention for the lunar cycle ahead. Choose a mind-set you wish to nourish or an affirmation you want to work with. As an FYI about what's to come, know that the November new moon in Scorpio is incredibly fertile, so you can use this lunar cycle to ready yourself for growth next month.

Until then, it's time to review, revisit, and bring things to completion instead of lunging toward the future, until Mercury stations direct on November 3rd, election day. Right now it's time to examine where we've been and what's not finished so we can ready ourselves to step into the future.
