Sure, pulling out the sharpest (and scariest) knife you own to carve a face into a pumpkin is the tried-and-truest of All Hallows' Eve traditions. But if you start poking around Pinterest's 58 million Halloween-related boards, you're bound stumble across a novel, tropical take on the classic decoration: pineapple jack-o-lanterns.

According to the internet hub for all things DIY, the searches for this spook-ified fruit are up almost 50 percent since last year. Meaning that, while yes, everyone's clamoring for PSLs and snuggly PJs, they're still, *ahem*, pining for sunny day snacks. And who can blame them? Unlike pumpkin guts (which have little to no noshing potential), the inside of a pineapple yields sweet, sweet fruit that you can freeze for future smoothies or cocktail hours.

“Scooping out the inside can be a little tricky. Cutting the center out in quarters definitely helps, but don’t worry about getting a little messy, that just means you’ll have extra juice in your cocktail,” says Ella Dove, recipe developer and Well+Good video producer. When you're ready to pull out your cutting board and get down to business, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Cut off the top of your pineapple.

Step 2: Use your knife to cut a circular hole in the interior of the fruit.

Step 3: Cut the sphere into wedges that you can easily remove.

Step 4: Scoop out any remaining flesh with a spoon.

Phew. Now your pineapple's ready for its features.
