Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reportedly Want a Fruity, Potassium-Packed Wedding Cake

When you think of popular wedding cake flavors, your mind may land on mainstay options like chocolate, vanilla, and maybe even red velvet—but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal treat-of-choice might pack a serious potassium punch for the sweetest reason.

Before they officially announced they were even dating, Markle posted an Instagram of two bananas spooning with the caption "sleep tight" and some kisses…likely meant for a certain British someone. And now, according to The Telegraph, their shared love of the fruit might make it a central aspect to their big day. In fact, one source close to the couple said it "will be the first royal wedding cake made from bananas." Talk about an awesomely healthy precedent.

Since the lovebirds haven't had a traditional courtship (and also haven't stuck totally straight to royal protocol, which extends to details as small as nail color), it wouldn't be surprising if they strayed from the expected with their wedding cake. Prince Harry does reportedly love anything with bananas after all, whether it's flan or ice cream.

The speculation will likely continue right up to the wedding ceremony, scheduled to take place at Windsor Castle in May 2018. Until then, take a note out of the engaged couple's cookbook and go bananas with some recipes featuring the fruit, like buckwheat loaf, nice cream, or even sushi.
