If you've found yourself gravitating towards green these days, or even just noticing more pops of verdant hues amid leisurely Pinterest scrolls, you're not alone. According to the Pantone Color Institute, the company that annually crowns a color of the year, there's a sage green trend happening. And it's really not so surprising, either. Sage green provides for an aesthetic that, much like Behr's 2021 color of the year Canyon Dusk, helps us connect us to Earth by grounding us in nature.

"This isn't so much a trend based on style, but one born out of necessity and the realization of a global health crisis and its effect on all of us," says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. "Harmonious and healing, the health-giving message conveyed by the sage greens are ideally suited to this time. They enhance our emotional well-being and boost our spiritual health…providing balance by serving as an antidote to the anxiety we continue to feel."

And rest assured, this isn't just a state of mind—it's psychology. Practices like forest bathing or shinrin-yoku, in Japanese, help us calm down amid greenery and cleanse the mind, body, and spirit. And consider this: Research has shown that the benefits of nature are so strong, that green imagery alone can replicate the stress-relieving properties of actually being amid it. One small 2016 study published by the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health revealed that keeping green images around your workspace can help reduce stress levels by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which controls rest functions.

So if you're for an aesthetic that'll may help you feel restored and relaxed, consider buying into the sage green trend. Check out six ideas below for how to let the color into your home.
