The key is knowing what items will *actually* make you money on resale and which you’re better off donating should you decide to Marie Kondo your closet.
Here’s where having a few pro tips from an industry insider can help, which is why I reached out to Kathleen Weng, vice president of merchandising at the online consignment store thredUP, for intel on what you need to know about the activewear resale market so you can optimize your sales.

Her best advice? Know which brands are best-sellers. “Lululemon, Nike, and Adidas—including Adidas by Stella McCartney—are among our most-popular activewear brands,” says Weng. “Lululemon sweatshirts and outerwear have been steadily growing in popularity among thredUP buyers over the past few months. We’ve also seen an uptick in trendy designer brands like Mara Hoffman activewear, Koral, and Tory Sport.” Here are a few more MVBs (most-valuable brands) across all resale sites to put on your radar.
Other than that, Weng says to consider these additional criteria for a successful sell: “Make sure your clothing is name brand, in-season, on-trend, and in great condition.” So, those hole-y college T-shirts will have to find a new home elsewhere.
