3 Tips for Making Your Staycation Feel Like a *Real* Vacation

Let's be honest—a staycation always sounds like a fun idea, but convincing your brain to enter vacay mode is tough when you're sitting in the same room that doubles as your work station all week long.

The good news is, finding that out-of-office mindset is possible, even if you're not planning to jet off to a tropical paradise any time soon. You can still recreate the vacay vibes of a weekend getaway if you follow a few staycation tips to vacation-ize your experience.

Yoga instructor and outdoor enthusiast Jess Blackmun's advice? Get outside as much as possible. In order to really embrace your relaxation time, switching up your scenery can make a big impact.

You can still enjoy the outdoors right where you are by inviting friends to a distanced hang in the park, or doing some research on what outdoor activities your town has to offer.

Blackmun did that by booking a stay at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort using her Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card, and then set out solo to check out local outdoor wellness activities. And—spoiler—she proves that you can get some much-needed self care without taking a big trip.

She found fresh ways to hang locally by taking her first at-sea SUP yoga class (that's stand-up paddle board yoga for the uninitiated), but even if you don't have an ocean paradise at your fingertips, you can still enjoy the outdoors right where you are by inviting friends to a distanced hang in the park, or doing some research on what outdoor activities your town has to offer.

And you might want to take notes for planning your own staycation, because if you use your Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card to book, you can enjoy benefits such as an Annual Free Night Award every year after your Card account anniversary up to 50,000 points. Heads up: Certain hotels have resort fees. You can also get $300 in statement credits each year of card membership for purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels, and earn 6x points for each dollar of eligible purchases at hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy. Terms apply. Note, taken.
