This year's winter—which brought nothing less than bone-chilling temperatures and Windy City-like gusts—kept me bundled in turtlenecks and oversized sweaters, many of which have pilled due to overwearing. As much as I love any excuse to shop for new clothes, the minimalism enthusiast in me can't bear to throw out clothes, let alone splurge on new clothes every time my garments show signs of wear. So, I decided to invest in a fabric shaver, and the Steamery Pilo 2 Fabric Shaver ($65) has been coming in handy.

The Pilo 2 keeps my sweaters in tip top shape and prevents them from looking dingy and old. Using six precision razor blades, it mows unwanted bubbles of fabric, be it wool, cotton, polyester, and acrylic, in just seconds. To use, I press the power button, which is located at the top of the device, and begin shaving. The device is easy to use, and the blade is protected under a cheese grater-like cover that can be applied safely over clothing without damaging or tearing the fabrics. After shaving away extraneous fabric and lint, my clothes look brand new. It works on furniture, socks, and blankets, too.

After shaving one garment, the Pilo 2 usually fills up, so it warrants me to empty it. To remove lint and pilling, I twist the cheese grater-like bottom, empty the contents, and shake the blade. It's really, really easy. The shaver can run up to one hour on a single use and takes approximately two hours to rejuice its battery using a charging cord.

The device retails for $65—which is on the heftier side of fabric shavers. What makes this shaver different and worth the money, though, is all in its engineering. Minimalistic, sleek, and featuring an ergonomic design—the Pilo 2 is shaped like a round cone that's easy to hold. The slanted edge enables the device to stand up on its own, making it easier to adjust the garment as I go, and the device looks like a work of art no matter where you place it. Beyond that, it fits perfectly into my hand and is so lightweight, it barely feels like I'm holding anything.

Since using the Pilo 2, I've been able to properly take care of my garments without feeling the need to buy new things. After a simple shave, my turtleneck and knits have never looked better. Whether you're looking to revive dingy clothes or furniture, the Pilo 2 is like a second lifeline.
